Spooky Pooch Howl-o-ween Celebration

Marjorie Post so loved dogs that she created a memorial pet cemetery at Hillwood. Bring Fido to Hillwood for Halloween fun! Explore Hillwood's twenty-five acres of landscaped gardens and lush natural woodlands with your four-legged friend and enjoy the following activities, located on the magnificent Lunar Lawn: Costume Competition - Strut your mutt and size up the other canine contestants. • Yappy Hour - Stop by the Hillwood café to pick up a special Spooky Pooch signature cocktail, light snacks, and dog treats. • Stroll the Woodland Walk - Join a woodland hike, led by members of Hillwood's horticulture team. Stroll the wooded trails and enjoy the brilliant fall color. This trail is also open for self-guided touring.

2017 Prevent Cancer 5k Walk/Run and Health Fair

Bring Fido and the family out to walk for this important cause. Dog owners can register their pup when they fill out their own registration form and dog registration is free. The route will take participants around the beautiful Capitol Riverfront neighborhood with the start and finish inside Nationals Park. This is not a timed race and the event is open to family and friends of all ages. Kids 10 and under are FREE as well as dogs! All four-legged friends must be leashed at all times during the event.

Wiener 500

Kick off Oktoberfest at this sixth annual event on the boardwalk at The Yards Park in the Capitol Riverfront. $500 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the speediest dogs! Over 96 dogs raced in 2016! • Don't have a dog? Come listen to live music by 7 Deadlies, drink cold Samuel Adams Octoberfest Beer, participate in the official Sam Adams stein hoisting competition, munch on great food and watch the funniest race around on a 17 foot jumbotron! Wes Johnson, voice of the Washington Capitals will be calling the play-by-play. • This is a family-friendly but you must be 21+ to drink bee; no outside alcohol allowed. Race proceeds will be donated to Humane Rescue Alliance. • Don't have a Dachshund? You can still take part in the excitement with the all breed contest for best dressed dog!
