I love Spearfish Canyon and this is my favorite place to stay when I'm there. This lodge is very welcoming. The rooms are beautiful ❣️ and it's located in the heart of the canyon with so much to do in every direction. My dog loves it here as well and always sleeps like a baby.

Our canine "talker" didn't phase anyone as we are traveling with her to improve her socialization that was delayed in her first years. The convenient trails offered wonderful exercise for her and gorgeous scenery for us. The staff, location, and our room were perfect for a relaxing respite. This was our first time to this area and we hope we can return for a longer stay next time.

This hotel is in a beautiful canyon surrounded by grass and next to a river with a walking path. We arrived late in the day so we didn't get to enjoy the surroundings. There is also a gas station just across the road and off road vehicle rentals available there. The room was adequate and the hotel offers a bar with a very limited menu. Nothing extra was offered for the dog but the surroundings offer a nice place to walk. The pet fee is $25 per pet per night which is high compared to many other hotels. The staff was not very friendly or helpful and seemed annoyed that they had to do their jobs.

Dogs are welcome nearly everywhere. They can join owners in the gift shop, bar/lounge, and on the front patio of the Lodge restaurant located across the street. Several dog-friendly hiking trails located very close to the property and the town of Spearfish is about 35 min away with several more options. The lodge sits on a good sized property with plenty of green space in addition to walking trails that are pet friendly.
The restaurant affiliated with the lodge is the only place to eat within about 30 min and thankfully the front patio welcomes dogs. The patio is small and so reservations are recommended. During our stay, service was very slow and the tables were located in the sun without umbrellas so be ware that it may be toasty.

We spent four nights here and it was marvellous. The hotel has a wonderful setting and there are so many hikes, short and long, within a stone’s throw of the hotel. There were a fair few dogs staying there, and not only are they welcome in the rooms, but they can join their owners in the large open plan lounge/bar area downstairs, which also serves a limited range of food. How many places are there in the US where you can spend an evening eating and drinking inside with your dog?
