Icing on the cake

Spearfish Canyon Lodge

I love Spearfish Canyon and this is my favorite place to stay when I'm there. This lodge is very welcoming. The rooms are beautiful ❣️ and it's located in the heart of the canyon with so much to do in every direction. My dog loves it here as well and always sleeps like a baby.

Restful stay

Arrowwood Resort at Cedar Shore

The view was the best part of the stay, but everything else was wonderful! Friendly, clean, comfortable, great steak, and a restful sleep. My dog is often nervous in hotels, and although there was a wedding underway and much activity in the hallways and on the grounds, he was comfortable and slept well.

Unwelcoming

Roadrunner Lodge

I arrived early and was hoping to add an early check-in fee or additional day. The parking lot was empty, the office door was locked, and it all felt very wrong and awkward. Rather than wait until the 4pm office open time, I decided to head home.

Smooth Sailing

Quality Suites I-44

I loved the courteousness of the front desk clerk, the ample and well-lit space for walking my dog, the cleanness of the room, and the comfortable sleep. Everything we needed for a restful overnight along our journey.

Perfect

My Place Hotel - Overland Park

Super quiet and comfortable with plenty of space to walk and stretch legs. Several dog parks close by, as well as a sports complex next door for running off extra energy.

Always Comfortable

Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Amarillo I-40 West TX

This is a great place to stay if you are visiting Palo Duro Canyon. Hotel is easily accessible and it's a fairly short, easy drive to the canyon. There's plenty of space to walk your dog while at the hotel with multiple waste disposal locations. Rooms are comfortable and quiet and my dog always sleeps well! There are many hotels in the area, but this one is always full of happy people and well-behaved pets.

Peace and Quiet

Santa Fe Motel & Inn

Santa Fe is a bustling town and in spite of the fact that the Inn is situated a mere few block's walk from the plaza, it was so quiet and peaceful. Course this location is also a boon if you're wishing to enjoy the plaza without the hassle of driving the crazy streets of this area of Santa Fe. Everyone I came upon there was relaxed and happy. The staff was amazing. The property was amazing. The casitas were amazing. There Is a designated pet area with waste disposal bags and receptacle. My dog loved chilling on the patio of the casita and slept peacefully on the little doggy blanket the Inn provided. We also received a special bag of treats, doggy instructions, and play toys. Five bones without a doubt for both the dog and his human!

It Takes a Village

Cowboy Village Resort

Cowboy Village provided a needed respite during an early dip in temperatures with falling snow. Very clean, cozy and welcoming. Lots of travelers with pets and lots of room for the pets with plenty of places to maintain a clean, natural environment. Both myself and my dog enjoyed our stay here! Plus, reception staff gave us solid traveling advice as we arrived sandwiched between 2 snow storms and needed the safest route out without chains. The young man at the front desk. The time to review the weather and gave me solid advice as to a departure date and route. Both were highly accurate.

Service with a smile

Best Western Mountain View Inn

Extraordinary service. The room was classic and the bed was extremely comfortable. The view was magnificent. Area to take my dog out was plentiful, easily accessible, and there were pet waste disposal bins quickly accessible on the exterior of the hotel from my room. The young lady at the front desk was so helpful and sweet and kind!!!!

Mixed Bag

Hampton Inn & Suites Casper

Reception at the hotel was extremely friendly and the room was lovely. However, the area to walk my dog to use the bathroom was across the parking lot to the hotel north of the hotel. I was staying in and there was a party that went on late into the night either next to or above or both next to and above my room so I didn't sleep. Both my doggo and myself were stressed.

Cabin and park

Lake Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins - Inside the Park

The cabin was cozy and super comfortable for myself and the dog and we could simply walk out and head toward a bit of forest or a bit of prairie to use the restroom and stretch our legs. However, there were no dog waste disposal areas and no directions were given on how to dispose of the waste. There are strict rules for waste in the park. Yellowstone and The Yellowstone are not very dog friendly. There are very strict rules concerning where a dog can be and the distance that they can move freely which makes it difficult to explore the grounds of the hotel or the park to any pleasurable degree. If it is your desire to simply see Yellowstone from your car, then bringing your dog along would work great.

Moving from a comfortable cabin to the comfort of your car and driving around the loops to enjoy the sites could definitely be pleasurable but was not what I was looking for. If you want to get out and explore the major areas and sites there are to see including hiking trails, then you must leave your dog at home or someone must be available to dog sit. I had no dog sitter and so we just chilled at the cabin and walked the grounds directly around the cabins. You cannot bring your dog in the hotel and you're not allowed to order food from the hotel to bring back to your cabin and there's no way to make food at the cabin so you're very restricted in what you can eat as well. In addition, you must sign a disclaimer that you will not leave your dog unattended in your cabin or your car and so I felt completely restricted in my movement and honestly was pretty hungry by the time I left. In my opinion, the Yellowstone Hotel should not allow dogs because it's just an inconvenience and misguiding.

If you plan ahead accordingly for cold meals you can make or food you can picnic with at approved picnic areas that are dog friendly, then food would also not be an issue. But I did not make this plan. So all in all I would never return to Yellowstone with my best friend, my dog, again.

A+ for Pets and Their Humans

The Cody

This was one of my favorite hotels during my travels this fall. Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. Dog friendly staff, dog friendly rooms, dog friendly area in general. There were multiple places to walk your dog with multiple waste containers and bags. The rooms were gorgeous. There was a veranda from the privacy of my hotel room with a gorgeous view of the mountains and space for my dog to get fresh air during the day and in the evening. I cannot say enough about what a wonderful stay we had at this hotel. We were both rested and happy when we left.

Sweet!

Days Inn by Wyndham Sheridan

The receptionist was so sweet! My room was extremely comfortable and clean, and breakfast was delicious! There was room to walk my dog on all sides of the hotel and all in all it was just a really nice stopover!

Hohum

The Lodge at Deadwood Gaming Resort

No treat at check-in and I had to sign a waiver that said I would not leave my dog unattended in my room (I wasn't planning on it anyway). The room was dark. On the bright side, the bed was extremely comfortable and there were lots of dogs for mine to watch curiously.

Comfy with Lots of Room to Explore

Bavarian Inn Black Hills

The Bavarian Inn is magical. Her both pets and humans. There's plenty of room to explore around the grounds for your pet. My room had veranda doors and chill out my dog to watch outside something he very much enjoys. Pet walking area was centrally located and fully stocked, but there were additional walking trails that led behind the property and around the property for nice early morning and evening walks.

Worst

Raine Motel

This is the worst motel I've ever stayed in in my life. The smell is horrible. My room was filled with flies to which the management said all they could do was give me a fly swatter. I felt really creeped out. The pictures and write up online did not match the actual motel at all. My dog almost refused to go into the motel room. Had to drag him in. That says a lot. Maybe if you're traveling a long distance and need a place to sleep +without a dog, this motel would work. But if you're traveling and want a comfortable place to stay with your dog, this is a creepy place to stop.

Exceptional

Fort Robinson State Park Cabins

The park staff are very animal friendly. The cabin and grounds around the cabin were spacious and my dog felt right at home. I believe the majority of the cabins are dog friendly. You feel like they're saying, "Hey we like dogs here!" All of the historical sites with the exception of two you can take your dog to see as well. There are numerous hiking trails across thousands of acres of land where your dog is welcome as long as you keep it on a leash. The park clearly has a respect for animals as it's an equine destination as well as at one time a canine training center during world war II. By far the friendliest state park for a person traveling with their pet that I have visited.

Marvelous

Howard Johnson by Wyndham Gothenburg

My stay in this hotel was extraordinary. They were so friendly and kind and accommodating and made me feel very comfortable having my dog with me. My dog can be skittish in new places and he was totally at home. They have a great area for walking the dog and supplies/receptacles for cleaning up as well. I cannot say enough good things about the staff, the cleanliness, and the overall comfort of this hotel!
