    Wonderful Break from the Heat

We toured Old Salem on a warm, humid day in June. One of us would visit a historic building while the other stayed outside with our pup, Bella. We stopped at The Tavern for lunch. After waiting on the porch for a few minutes, we were led around to the back, where a large shaded area awaited. Our table had been set, complete with a bowl of water for Bella. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food was excellent. Bella enjoyed a little turkey from my large Club sandwich, and we enjoyed a lovely, breezy break from a warm day. Would certainly visit again.

    Don't depend on it!

Went to Old Salem for the day with our son and our very small and well behaved dachshund. He was travelling in a completely enclosed backpack carrier. We planned to have our Sunday meal away The Tavern but we were told the patio where dogs were allowed was closed for a private event so we couldn't stay. Interestingly enough, the large outdoor patio should have allowed plenty of seating for both the private event and other patrons. There were MANY empty tables and multiple seating areas. When we asked 2 employees where else we might be able to eat, we were told they had no idea because they didn't live close by.
