Fun little boutique that’s Fido friendly

Humble Pie Boutique

The clerk had dog treats and didn’t mind our German Shepard shedding all over the place. She was very sweet and personable. It’s one of the few places in Helen downtown that you can bring doggo into the shop. They have a bunch of neat soaps/bath bombs, cute clothes, costume jewelry, hats, and other girlie things. Hubby came with me and enjoyed it because he’s a soap junkie. We spent some money in the shop because 1) we liked the bath products and 2) it’s important to support small businesses/dog friendly businesses so that we can keep taking our spoiled pouch on outings.

Great spot for spot

Great Outdoors Restaurant

Important things to know:
1. Patio seating. Next to main road is a bit noisy, but still a good time
2. Daily specials (check the website)
3. A little pricy, but very yum. Tuesday as half price burger nights if you want to sample without spending a lot

Everything we tried we liked. Fried gator tail, suanee burger, and veggie burger (don’t knock it, you omnivores! It was easily the best veggie burger I’ve ever had!) Their homemade potato chips were dynamite and their pickles were out of this world. Full bar (excited to learn that Guinness was on tap) with signature cocktails. For dessert, we had the chef’s bread pudding and were in heaven. Pup sampled everything (well, not the beer) and even liked the veggie burger! Lovely, Personable stAff who brought our pup a water bowl and interacted with her well

Great hiking spot

O'Leno State Park

Our German shepherd loved this park! Beautiful spots for humans to marvel at and lots of awesome smells for the pupper. Bring leash and water bottles (the water fountain my the bathrooms is iced cold and tastes great!) There are poop bags (must clean up after Fido!) we did the river trail, a quick 1.44 loop hike that goes over a suspension bridge and loops back to the campsite entrance. There’s a phone number posted that you can call for a “tour guide” that gives cool info about the trail (sign posted by the bridge.)

Fun time for Fido and friends

East End Eatery

Important information
1. Access to back patio is through the front of the restaurant
2. Vegan and vegetarian options galore, though plenty of amazing omnivorous options.
3. Breakfast and lunch only.
4. Is a local eatery, so you can expect something new with each visit
5. Cash or check only. Come prepared (we weren’t, since it was an impulse stop while traveling in Gainesville)

Our server, Mackenzie, was attentive and took the time to pet our pouch as well as refill her water bowl. Since we were on the patio alone, she let us let our pup off leash to explore. The super spuds were dynamite! Hubby had the turkey and Brie panini and I had the egg salad blt; both were yummy. Their side of the day was potato salad, but the let us substitute green beans.

The only complaint that I have is that they’re not closed to home because I’d totally bring the dog back for noms and visits

Very accommodating for fido

Half Wall Craft Beer Hall & Restaurant

Ample outdoor seating and lots of dog living servers. The beer selection is impressive and varied. Try the peanut butter bacon burger and a stout for the humans and a grilled chicken breast for pupper

Great tour!

Spanish Military Hospital Museum

I’m a nurse, so this was especially fun for me, but it’s a neat activity for anyone interested in history, especially medical. They were very accommodating to our German shepherd and even had treats

Fido friendly field trip

Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park

Had a blast! The bbq take out place was also tasty and they immediately offered our German Shepard water. She was welcome everywhere I. The park and had a blast chasing squirrels and peacocks (dragging mom on leash the whole way, of course!) They even have a special water fountain for dogs. The cannon and weapon demonstrations are a bit loud, so avoid those if pup is squeamish about loud noise (ours likes to watch fireworks and is indifferent to our neighbors who constantly hunt, so wasn’t a problem.) All in all, a fun outing with lots of nice people who wanted to get pets.

Cowboy sized steak cooked by Angels

Cowboys & Angels Restaurant and Bar

Came to Helen for a visit and had to try. They loved on our German shepherd and brought her water in a dog bowl. We had the place to ourselves because it’s a weekday in fall, but they said it’s crazy on weekends, so plan accordingly. We ate on the patio, as expected for having our furry companion, and it was nice; they had plastic wrap around the windows to keep off the worst of the chill, but their heaters weren’t working so it was a bit nippy. The filet was amazing, the Gouda grits and Gouda/cheddar Mac a must try, and the Asparagus Devine. The collards were a little sweet for my taste, but not enough of a deterrent to put me off. Be prepared to drop some cash, but it’s worth it for a treat.

Amazeballs!

Hofer's Bakery Restaurant & Cafe

Took our German Shepard here and it’s not to be missed! The people who left the “rotten” review did not read the sign. You have to go to the bakery and order, then they’ll bring you your meal. The knockwurst with warm sauerkraut was yummy (our pup ate the kraut, if you can believe that, and got pouty when we ran out.) The homemade soups were just the warm up we needed to fight off the cold weather (as you, of course, need to eat outside with your pup.) We also took some rye bread and danish to go for later. 5 bones!! Great experience

Perfect pub for a pup and her people

Magical Meat Boutique

Authentic British pub cuisine with wonderful, covered outdoor seating made for a great outing! I had bangers and mash with Yorkshire pudding (sausage, mashed Potatoes, and a fluffy, baked egg not quite bread thing that you’ll have to trust me is delicious) and hubby had Shepard’s pie (authenticity made with lamb.) For our appetizer, we had a scotch egg and for dessert, spotted dick (pastry made with lamb fat and topped with custard that, again y’all, just trust me when I say it’s flippin’ awesome.) They have a doggie menu (though we opted to share some of our meat with our pup) and the thoughtful waiter brought our german Shepard a bow of iced water with a side of cuddles. They have burgers and sandwiches for the less adventurous, as well as an impressive looking breakfast menu (including a full English that I’ll have to come back for.) Be prepared for a doggy bag because the potions are impressive and a designated driver because the beer/wine menu is as big as the food selections.

Five bones for Blooms

Bloom's Baking House and Restaurant

Lovely shaded outdoor seating, friendly servers, and yummy food makes for a five bone rating at this sweet cafe. They brought our doggo a bowl of ice water and didn’t flinch at a 90lb german Shepherd. Our pup loved to people watch from the cafe seating outside and enjoyed their delicious bacon. Hubby and I enjoyed their breakfast (homemade jam is a must!) and took some cookies for the road.

Great times at the Ruby Street Grill

Ruby Street Grille

Awesome outside seating that’s about as big as inside. Server brought doggie bowl of iced water and treats, as well as petted our GSD; she was amazingly sweet and attentive. The sliders were yummy and was able to get a small side salad with delicious homemade dressing (though splurged and got the potato skins, which were loaded. Doggo gave two paws up for the crispy bacon.) There’s a full bar (Virgin pina colada for a teetotaler like me and a cold beer for hubby,) live music, and polite patrons who didn’t seem bothered by our 90lb fur baby. It’s right off the water so you get a nice breeze that makes the Florida summer bearable. Also lots of space to take doggo on explorations or potty breaks as the need arises (our headstrong, working dog has to do constant perimeter checks or she gets antsy.) Definate recommendation for a nice meal and a few cocktails, if that’s your thing, and looking for for dog welcome place.
