I Wish I Lived Closer!

South Windsor Bark Park

Visited the park on the way home from a short stay for a family event. Ended up spending 2 hours! I’ve made it a goal to stop at dog parks wherever I travel, especially those highly rated. I am surprised to see less than stellar reviews here, bc this was the best I’ve been to so far. There were actually dogs and people gathered in the small dog area, which was huge - and the dogs enjoyed the spacious running area. Usually at many parks, the big dog area is usually where it’s at. The people were extremely friendly and. Welcoming and I really enjoyed talking with them in comfy chairs while the dogs played. They were patient with my dog who’s always a little nervous at first but loves nothing more than playing and warms up and engages. They do have wood chips and you could tell the dogs preferred dirt, so they will get dirty, but who cares?! There is a large, clean porta potty (finally someone thought to do this - yay!), emergency phone, and beautiful woodsy surroundings with paved walking areas. I was so happy to watch my dog have so much fun making new friends. She was happy and relaxed after, and I just wish I lived closer! Loved it, and bravo to South Windsor for this dog haven!

TRULY dog Friendly!

La Quinta by Wyndham Hartford Bradley Airport

5 bones, not bc it’s the Ritz, but it’s amazing for dog owners traveling with loved ones. Basic, clean rooms were satisfactory with plush soft bath towels, good shower, basic amenities. Bonus microwave and fridge, and lobby shop sells frozen microwaveable food. Staff was okay, and I had zero problems bringing the dog in and out, other guests, or problems with equipment. I liked beds lower to ground to keep my dog from being too high, and loved having a safe and comfortable place to leave her a few hours for a family event. She was very happy on the grounds and we were on 1st floor - very convenient. Could hear other dogs whine now and then but absolutely minimal and only passing by. The problems were thin floors and doors with apparently a child running around above us and the sound of slamming doors or the cleaning cart nearby was easily heard. It’s true there is a tiny space with wood chips allocated for dog use, but she did fine, and there are other strips of grass and sidewalks along main road. Shops in walking distance. Recommend nearby Bear’s BBQ for yummy eats. As most dog owners know, the hotel had the creepy late night walking situation when the dog’s gotta go out late, not feeling super safe in the back, where trailers were parked, but we are used to this, and you can stick to the front. This is definitely an airport hotel most used for short basic stays. No pool but does have fitness center. Beyond pleased and surprised at quality of stay and cleanliness. Passed initial bedbug inspection and no reports popped when researching... major criteria for anywhere I stay. No pet fee. Very pleased and will be beyond happy to stay again and trust my baby girl if I need to step out, will be cared for in a safe, clean environment. And ultimately, my cautious pup was happy and relaxed here - which means a lot!

Secret Gem

Compass Rose Beach

I am so glad I found this here. It’s not the best beach in RI, but that’s not the point! It was such a joy to bring my pup to a real beach - sand, waves, ocean, bathing suits, and spend the day enjoying it myself. I recommend water shoes for swimming due to the shells/rocks if feet are sensitive. You can swim, kids can play, people are generally spread out enough to have plenty of breathing room. Dogs and people were all friendly, and my girl had just a great time playing! You can walk the dog in grassy areas too. There were 3 garbage cans, several picnic tables, and a ports-potty. Minus the Electric Boat buildings, in front of you is a gorgeous ocean view. It’s a small beach and probably enough people for this not to be the best place for an aggressive dog. Free parking. Afterward we went to dinner for seafood at Finn’s in East Greenwich, which is dog-friendly on the patio. I ordered a little grilled chicken for my pup and they brought it in a dog dish. Noticed some scattered trash on beach, so everyone should remember to clean up after themselves and keep this a nice oasis for our furry friends! So happy to be able to give my dog such fun experiences!

Great Location, Clean, Fair Price

Best Western Cape Cod Hotel

I love this hotel for weekend trips to various areas all around Cape Cod with my pup! I’m giving a 5 bones rating, not because it’s the best hotel ever, but it is excellent for its price level. I am very selective of where I stay, and now with a pup, there aren’t as many choices. This hotel has had availability when I needed it, had no bed bug reports, is surprisingly comparatively clean, has all the basics for a short stay, including fridge and microwave, and my dog is always happy there. It is central to the Cape with good local shopping. Understand that yes, it’s dated, has minor issues at times like a bulb out, could use new paint, etc. but it is so affordable and accommodating, I have not yet had an issue. And this trumps the nearby pet-accepting hotels when you are looking for quality with spontaneous availability. My major complaint would be it is somewhat isolated near a swampy area and roadway, so slightly scary to take the dog out at night, particularly around the back where you need to walk to the front for grass, and the card reader doesn’t seem to work on the far door. They really should consider making a real dog walk area, as you basically have a strip of grass along the parking lot and near the pond and dumpster. However, I’m so happy to stay, I accept this inconvenience. I have never had an issue with pet noise. They have a superb full breakfast with everything you could ask for, for free. They could improve the front desk items for purchase with variety and refrigerated items, but I did find a soda and ice cream machine around the corner the last trip. I have not used the pool/hot tub. I’m so glad they understand how important it is for us to travel with our loved ones - all of them! I would not have considered a Best Western until I found this here, and am so glad I did! It’s no Ritz, but it is tops for the price point and overall value that meets my needs.
