Hi! I’m Chuck Chulaic! A Cockapoo, a travel critic (aka raver!), emotional support extrovert, and certified good boy. I keep my Velcro mom company. My hooman Dad and I travel everywhere with her because she can’t function without us (and we totally don’t mind). I’ve decided to start reviewing all the best dog-friendly spots...because if they treat me right, you know they’re doing something right! Expect honest feedback, 0-4 paws up rating, and the occasional side eye if service is sub-paw.

Chuck Approves!

Hampton Inn Gallatin TN 🐾🐾 All four paws up for me! Let me tell you, it was pawsitively amazing! These humans just get it! And I'm one hard pup to please with ridiculously high standards... according to my Mum "insert dog eye roll." Ms. Ginger (whom I now call Aunt Ginger) rolled out the red carpet as soon as my paws hit the lobby. She gave me a VIP (Very Important Pup) goodie bag with a bone and ball in my favorite yellow color! It also had treats from my Mum and Dad, a lint roller and bags to pick up after myself. Everyone, especially Aunt Ginger and Aunt Colleen, were super friendly, making us feel right at home. Even my Mum and Dad kept grinning like they just found unlimited treats. I can't wait to come back in six months. These ladies treat dogs better than some hotels treat paying guests.

Chuck Disapproves!

First trip with our Cockapoo and I was reading reviews online. Unfortunately, the review I did listen to, I didn't read to the end where they did mention they were compensated meals for a review. We, as consumers, need real reviews and not paid promos. This would have saved us a lot of money and we definitely would have had a better vacation (which we rarely get). Before arriving I did mention we would have a 30 lb Cockapoo and we would need the dog bed, bowls, treats, because I was super excited about his first hotel stay.

Arrived and oddest thing was you had to go to the 24th floor to check in. No one at desk downstairs. You do take your own luggage at this 4 star hotel, but no big deal there. They did inform us it is $51 a day extra to valet otherwise you have to find your own parking downtown. We were not familiar with the Fort Worth area, so we opted to pay the extra. Got to the room and it looked nice at first glance, but nothing was set up for pets.

We chose this because of the "paid review" and it being mentioned that there was not a pet fee and the bonus of a sound machine. The room did not have a sound machine, but it did have filthy floors, so bad that our socks were black when we left and nothing set up for our dog like asked. Went to call the front desk and the phone did not work, so my husband did go back up to the top floor to let them know. We got a "oh no" and "we will get someone to check it out." But that's it. Nothing else resolved.

Rooms were not cool, beds not comfortable. I actually woke up with severe back pain, headache, sweating, oh and another busted eye vessel due to the heat and dryness of the room. Doors slam, so be very careful. Not just slam but a huge bang with reverberations. Not everyone is careful in the hotel, so waking up every few hours to a huge bang was miserable. Doors meaning shower doors and main doors. Showers puddle on the outside of the door as you're in the shower, so by the time you get out, you get a welcoming 1/2 inch of cold water at your feet.

For the cost to stay at a mediocre 2.5 star hotel at best with the price tag of a 4 star hotel, you would have been better off getting a rental or even a sister company like the Hampton with pet fee to get a better, more restful, friendlier staff, and more affordable stay. We did the best to make this rare vacation we get enjoyable by staying out of the hotel as much as possible. This is the 2nd Kimpton and so far we have not been impressed. We have had such better experiences with home rentals where majority of the people care.
