Lobster Pound with a view

Muscongus Bay Lobster

There is a huge deck with plenty of picnic tables. A favorite of locals, the restaurant is dog-friendly. Bring your own water dish for the dog. Water is available. While casual dining is what you usually see, we have seen regulars who bring tablecloths and linen napkins and candles for the tables. This is a BYOB place. Food is reasonably priced and fresh. Staff are courteous and very helpful. Very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Great Cruise !

Cap'n Fish's Cruises

While staying in Portland, we looked for day trips we could make. The cruises of Cap'n Fish's Boat Trips looked really interesting. Sailing out of Boothbay Harbor, we felt a cruise would let us see more of the coast of Maine than trying to drive along the coast. The cruises are dog friendly but the price per dog is high. A senior ticket was $30 and a ticket for a dog was $20! We went even though the cost was a little outrageous for the dogs. The cruise was great. The information shared about the history of the area and what it is like to live in this section of Maine was fascinating. It was a long cruise but we enjoyed it immensely. I would encourage Cap'n Fish to consider lowering the price for a dog's ticket. You are not dog-friendly if the price of a ticket is so high.

They Love Dogs!

Boothbay Lobster Wharf

While staying in Portland, we made several day trips with our Bernese Mountain dogs. After a cruise out of Boothbay Harbor, we stopped at Boothbay Lobster Wharf for dinner. Every seafood item is fresh, cooked to order. Huge deck overlooking the harbor. Had their two 1 1/2 lb lobsters with drawn butter and 2 sides special. For sides we chose corn and coleslaw. The dogs had plenty of room and fresh water. Staff were very courteous and loved the dogs. We were there on Friday night and left just before the musical group started. Definitely recommend.

Great Park with Lighthouse

Fort Williams Park

Fort Williams Park is beautiful! Great walks along the coast. Interesting history regarding the lighthouse and fort. Part of the Portland Discovery Land and Sea Tours. Dogs are welcome everywhere except inside the buildings. Several food trucks are on site. Great place for a picnic. Dogs are to be on leash at all times but we saw several dogs off leash but under voice control.

Kites and Dogs, Oh My!

Bug Light Park

The park at Bug Light is huge. Weekends are for flying kites and there is always quite a crowd. It was the first thing we noticed when we were at the Visitor's Center in Portland. Grabbed my kite and with our 2 Bernese Mountain dogs, headed to Bug Light. We kept our dogs on leash but walked the entire area. Many people were flying kites. Returned a second time just to walk around again. Will be returning for their big Kite Festival in 2020.

A Great Way to Tour the City and the Bay !

Portland Discovery Land and Sea Tours

We were very impressed with the offerings of Discovery. We chose a combo pack - a trolley ride of the city and a cruise of various lighthouses in the bay. Dogs are free! Prices are reasonable. The guide on the trolley ride was excellent. We learned so much about the history of Portland. Our dogs are big (>100 lbs each) and had their own seat on the trolley or sat on the floor. People on the tour were very gracious. The cruise was very interesting as we wanted to sit upstairs. It is more of a ladder than stairs to climb to get to the upper deck. One of our dogs climbed without a problem. However, our male was not too sure and really needed a lot of encouragement. Again the educational aspect of the cruise was great. Definitely recommend. And by the way, both dogs were able to go down the stairs without any problem.

Our Berners loved the ride!

Casco Bay Lines

Casco Bay Lines offers several different cruises, all of which are dog-friendly. We chose the early morning mailrun. Our tickets were a little over $20 each and the dogs were a little over $4 each. Seating is available inside and outside. We started inside then moved up on deck later. Everyone on board loved the dogs. Most remembered to ask permission before petting or approaching. Ship noises did not bother our dogs. There was a lot of educational material shared by the staff. We stopped several times and were able to exit at the last stop for about 15 minutes. A resident of that island owned a Berner so we had a great time chatting. Will definitely take some of the other cruises when we return to Portland. Very professionally run operation!

Food & Location are Great !

Lobster Shack at Two Lights

First, the outside picnic tables are right on the rocky coastline. Gorgeous views! Ordered the lobster boat which is a lobster roll, coleslaw and fries. Plenty of other choices. Good drink choices also. There are plenty of picnic tables. Parking is limited but adequate. Loved watching the people, dogs, and the view.

Our Favorite Portland Restaurant

The Porthole

On the wharf, the huge deck gives a great view of all the activity going on in the harbor. They love dogs. We saw more tables with dogs than tables without dogs. We celebrated our 50th anniversary dinner there, which was a Sunday. Service was prompt and courteous. Wait staff came and visited with the dogs. Water and a water dish was provided for the dogs. Staff made sure the water dish stayed full. We went about 3 pm for a late lunch (early dinner) and there was no wait. Plenty of food and drink choices. Great special - two 1 1/2 lbs lobster, corn, potatoes, roll, drawn butter. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Bakery

Standard Baking Co.

I grabbed some items for breakfast before heading out on the Mailrun on the Casco Bay Lines. There were many choices. I noticed several dogs but there is not much seating outside. Loved the baked goods!

This restaurant loves dogs!

Flatbread Company

Arrived at about 2 pm for a late lunch. No waiting. Dogs received their water before we received our drink order! Staff were very friendly. Food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Love eating on the deck by the wharf!

Elegant

Mohegan Manor

The dog-friendly area is located between two buildings. Romantic with subtle lighting and music. Great food and professional service. Water and water dish were provided for our dogs. We made reservations, although not necessary. Owner visited with us. Highly recommend.

Plenty of Outdoor Seating

Heid's of Liverpool

Except for winter, Heid's has a huge outdoor seating area which doubles their seating. The owners love dogs. We have been bringing our Bernese Mountain dogs there for over 12 years. We have seen big dogs and small dogs there. Bring your own water dish and water. Water is available inside. Near Onondaga Park which is dog-friendly. Also near Wegman's Dog Park.
