Historic State Park

Tishomingo State Park Campground

Tishomingo State Park is a hidden gem in Northeast Mississippi. We paid several day visits while having our RV serviced at Tiffin in nearby Red Bay AL. There are numerous hiking trails, amazing rock formations, a suspension bridge and other remnants of its historic past. Your best friend will get a good workout! Although we didn't camp or take advantage of amenities, I think that the park is in need of a general cleanup. For a day trip, it is well worth the nominal admission fee.

Nice Casual Spot

The Beach House Kitchen & Cocktails

Take out was our lunch option for The Beach House. It's a simple place with a friendly staff. I got there early and the manager brought me a glass of water while I waited. It was a Redfish Sandwich for my husband and a Chili-Lime Shrimp Wrap for me. Both were good, although I found the sauce on my wrap a bit sweet. We hope to return with the dogs now that we're vaccinated.

Great Fresh Seafood

Dewey Destin's

On a leisurely drive through Navarre, we decided to stop at Dewey's for lunch. Since it was pre-covid vaccine days, we decided that take out was the best option for us. My husband enjoyed the Blackened Mahi-Mahi Salad and Gumbo. I found the Grilled Chicken Salad to be tasty and satisfying. Hope to get back and enjoy the full dining experience.

Tasty and Satisfying Food

Sweet Peppers Deli

The main reason we chose Sweet Peppers is that dogs are allowed at the outside tables. We didn't realize that the food was so good. My husband loved the Beef and Peppers Sandwich with Potato Salad. I was very happy with the Roasted Veggie Pita and Fruit Salad. So tasty! We would go back in a minute!

Military History and Memorials

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park

If you are in the Mobile area, don't miss this amazing battleship and the memorials on its grounds. Along with the ship are examples of planes, helicopters, boats and tanks which served us in warfare. There are memorials to those who served in past wars as well as 9-11. They haven't forgotten the brave canines who served alongside our soldiers as well. The memorial park is dog friendly and if you care to tour the ship, there are outdoor kennels where your companions can relax while you're inside.

Great Historic Fort

Fort Gaines

This is a well preserved fort at the entrance to Mobile Bay. It played a key Civil War role in the defense of Alabama. The wall is mostly intact and various rooms used by its residents are on display in the courtyard. Take a leisurely self guided tour and enjoy the views of the Gulf. It's dog friendly, too.

Great Piece of History

Fort Morgan Historic Site Bayside Beach

This is a well preserved fort that played a role in several of our nation's wars. Take a self guided tour to explore the grounds. Postings throughout help to explain the history. It's right on the water and it's dog friendly.

Beautiful Setting, Great Food

Moondog Seaside Eatery

Moondog has it all - satisfying food, beautiful waterside setting, friendly service and welcoming to dogs! My Baja Mahi Tacos featured the most tender mahi mahi that I've ever had. The corn, cheese and jicama slaw toppings were creative and delicious - as were the sweet potato fries. Grilled salmon, red beans and rice, fried shrimp and oysters got rave reviews from the table. Our waitress Kat was friendly and very accommodating to ours dogs. We were even able to sit in an open air indoor room with the pups.

Dog Park and Dog Wash Available

Sun Outdoors Lake Travis

We found La Hacienda to be fine for a recent RV trip through central Texas. Lots are gravel but we were able to level easily. Aside from the dog park, we didn't use the amenities but the pool, playground and clubhouse with billiard tables looked nice. Cable service was lacking and there didn't seem to be any rush to get it fixed.

Great Italian Food

Juliet Ristorante

It's so nice to find good restaurants that accommodate dogs, and Juliet is one of them. We enjoyed lunch on the patio on a pleasant winter day. My husband loved the spaghetti Bolognese while I found the Pesto Primavera with Rigatoni both creative and satisfying. A bottle of red Italian wine accompanied our meal. Service was neither rushed nor sluggish, which was perfect. No complaints from our dogs either!
