Stressful Day

Biltmore Estate

Had to call to confirm they still had kennels since it isn't on their website anymore. The lady said yes, but bring my own lock. Went and bought a lock. Got there and the kennels had chains and locks on them for public use. Kennels are in Lot C. We wanted to walk the dogs around the grounds, then go kennel them before our house tour. From Lot C, there is no walking path to get to the house. We started walking on the side of the road. We got stopped by 2 shuttle drivers telling us it wasn't safe for us to walk, but dogs aren't allowed on the shuttle. We walked back to the car, parked in Lot A, walked to the house on the short walking trail that's only available from Lot A. We walked in the gardens for a bit, then I left the others so I could take the dogs back the kennels in Lot C. You cannot go from Lot A to Lot C! I had to drive around the entire property to get back to Lot C. With the walking & driving, it took me an HOUR to get back to the house!! I was late for our tour, but luckily they didn't seem to care about our entry time. This was a stressful day. Hard to believe that a place that talks about how walkable it is, doesn't have a trail from the kennels to the house.

Cute!

Dog Welcome Center at Dog Door Behavior Center and Outfitters

Cute little place to visit & shop. They had a table with a free gift & info on dog-friendly places to take your dog.

Beautiful

Barkwells

This place was nice. They went above & beyond to help us celebrate a birthday. The extra small touches were wonderful. My dogs were tired every day! The location is great for taking day trips. The employees were super nice and eager to please.

Not Too Busy

Warner Dog Park

This park isn't usually too busy so it's good for shy dogs. It does get really muddy after it rains though. Like any dog park, keep an eye on your dogs and the other dogs.

Update Review

Sunflower Cafe

I took my dogs to this Cafe several years ago. We went back yesterday. The restaurant is a lot busier now days. Still have great food. They still require you to go inside to order which means leaving your dogs outside. They were busy so I was inside longer than I would have preferred. I also was not able to get any water for the dogs. At least 3 employees walked past us multiple times but noone acknowledged us.

Fun Place for Dogs

Garvin Brown Nature Preserve

The sign in the parking lot says dogs are required to be on leash. From the parking lot, you walk your dogs through a small part of a city park before you get to the privately owned preserve area. The public land has a lot of goose poop, so watch your dogs if they like to eat goose poop. There is a small body of water in this area too. Once you enter the preserve there are tall grasses, shrubs and trees. It can be muddy in this area. I met a small group of very nice people who were local to the area. They let me know that most people let their dogs off-leash in the preserve area. We walked with these people for a bit since our dogs were playing. It's important to note that people w/o dogs go here to enjoy walks too, so make sure you can control your dog, as not everyone wants to meet your dog. The 1 thing I wish I had known before driving 2 hours is that there is a rifle range somewhere nearby & you can hear the gunshots very clearly. 1 of my dogs is afraid of loud noises so when shots started 5 minutes after our arrival, she was terrified. Meeting other dogs helped reduce her stress a bit, but I wouldn't have driven that far if I had known about the gun range. Overall, it was a cool place to go & I wish we lived closer.

Workout

John James Audubon State Park

There is only 1 trail that dogs are allowed on at this park. The trail goes up & down a decent sized hill, in the woods. It's a good workout, but can be tough if you're injured or have an elderly dog. Trails wash away & can be slippery on the hills after rain.
