Decent dog park

Stephen M. Hussey BarkPark at Country Park

This is a fairly spacious, all around average dog park in my opinion. There are separate fenced areas although I don’t think they are designated for any specific purpose, old dogs, small dogs, etc. Most if the dogs and people here are friendly. I haven’t had or seen any major issues. Sometimes people do bring an unruly, unneutered pitbull or something like that, usually they figure out that it’s best to leave. As for not allowing small children, I think that is an excellent policy. I don’t know what kind of parent wants their two year old running around yanking random dogs’ ears anyway. I certainly don’t want toddlers there and am thankful they just nipped that problem in the bud. During the week you can drive up, on weekends you will have to walk about a half a mile to get there. Check it out if you’re in Greensboro.

Thank you!! Finally a dog-friendly beach in NC!

Bald Head Island Beaches

Finally! Finally! I found a truly dog-friendly beach in North Carolina. Sadly, most of the beaches in NC have very restrictive or prohibitive policies regarding dogs on the beaches. Why would I bring my dog to the beach and keep her on a 6 foot leash and/or not allow her in the water, or only go before 9 am or after 6 pm? Awful policies in this state regarding dogs on beaches. This place is a shining example of a beach where dog lovers can allow their WHOLE family to enjoy the sunny beach without restrictions. Dogs are allowed to run free without leashes here. This is as long as they are polite and well-behaved of course. There are a couple of barriers to this getaway however. I think these barriers also cut down on poorly behaved pooches/owners, however. Getting here and getting around certainly test your commitment to taking your dog to the beach. You have to take a 20 minute, $22 round trip ferry ride. Then to get around on the island and go to the different beaches, you need to rent a golf cart at $100/day. Alternatively, they have a tram service to get around. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and this is now my go to beach getaway in NC. Oh, no dogs in the beach after dark during turtle season (summer).
