FANTASTIC dog park!
Sonic Drive-InFolks, if you travel I-70 across Kansas, you know how mind-numbing it can be. Well, 255 miles from Denver, and 288 miles before Topeka, there's the town of Oakley. In Oakley, you'll find the TA Western KS Wildlife Travel Center. Next to the main building is a Sonic. (Good food, friendly staff. Get the app!)
But the reason to stop at this Sonic is the adorable little dog park .Small, yeah, but beautiful grass, enough room to play a little fetch, and water for the doggos.
In a road trip where too many dog parks are fenced in dirt, this was a breath of fresh air.
Great place, exorbitant dog fee
Residence Inn by Marriott BakersfieldAs a hotel, Residence Inn Bakersfield is really nice. Lots of room, kitchen in room with dishes and cookware. Full fridge etc. So, no worries there. Just a little tough to swallow a $50 pet fee when the room itself was under $90. Other than the fee, no complaints.
Fantastically dog friendly covered patio
Lost Forty BrewingExcellent beer, including one of the best Blonde ales I've had, and an exceptional seasonal wheat beer (Blackberry Bramble).
Superb food, great vibe, and the staff ADORES dogs. They even brought a dish of fresh water for our dog when we were seated.
Nice place, can be noisy
Comfort Inn & Suites PresidentialI would have given this 4 bones, except the noise from the highway can be loud, and at 12:21 am I had to call the front desk to get them to shoo a bunch of outrageously noisy teenagers out of the hallway. The hotel itself is very nice, the breakfast buffet is welcome. Only having two elevators can make things dicey when you're juggling your dog and luggage at busy times. Lots of area to walk the dog. Added bonus-a short walk to the dog-friendly "Lost Forty" brewery.
Great value for the money
Red Roof Inn Birmingham SouthLet's face it. Most of the time when we're traveling with our pooch, we're looking for a place our lay our head and then pack up and get going. Red Roof Inn fills that niche, and with no added pet fee. THAT'S Red Roof's secret weapon. The room was fine, the refrigerator was more useful than 90% of hotel fridges I've encountered, there was a grassy spot for dog potty area. Parking could be a little tight. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, the process was easy. Red Roof Inn has bumped up a notch in my book.
