Get the chowder
J.T. Farnham'sIt’s unassuming from the road but they seem to have a booming business. In the early Spring, it was easy enough to find parking and seating. There are picnic tables overlooking the salt marsh. We ordered the fried clam strip plate and a bowl of seafood chowder. The fried food was ok, needed some salt or lemon, but the chowder was amazing. Our bowl had two full size scallops, two full shrimp and a bunch of other seafood - it’s a brothy style. Lunch for two cost $40, as we shared one plate and soup. We had a soda and seltzer. They do sell booze, but only for inside. Hot tip - they’re cash only. There is an ATM inside.
Dogs allowed inside
Newburyport Brewing CompanyThis brewery has a lot going for it - the beer is great, and there should be something to please everyone’s taste. Its really laid back and has seating inside and out. They sell slices of pizza but allow you to bring your own or get delivery. We ordered from Anchor Pizza and it was great. The staff is great and they even have doggie treats at the bar.
Doggy Heaven
Singing BeachWhen I die, I hope this is what heaven is like - soft sand, endless sea and a ton of happy doggies. Lots of people had their pooches off leash. Doggos were swimming, playing catch and playing with each other. Dogs only allowed off season. in early April, there was a lot of available free parking. There are lots of benches and rocks to sit on.
Heated Patio
Longboards Restaurant & BarThe service was lovely, food was fine. The patio was a nice setting, even on a cool spring evening. We benefited from space heaters. We splurged on Lobster tots as an app and each had lobster rolls and chowder. They were filling but not outstanding. We each (2 adults, not the dog) had two drinks and the bill was just over $100. I’d recommend trying a sandwich or flatbread.
