Dog friendly, very dated rooms

Whispering Winds

REALLY old motel. Like going back into the 60’s. Mold/Mildew in shower, dirty floors in the first room. They tried to make it right and moved us to another room. This motel is due for renovation this winter, and at the time of this review it was a REALLY old and barely functional motel. Old coil spring beds. Baseboard heat that you have to adjust at floor level with a knob. Still a very safe area. Clean bed/sheets, friendly staff, but really small rooms with totally antiquated bathrooms/amenities.

Large yard to walk the dog. About 2 miles from the town of Skaneateles. Carport for each room. I’ll wait for them to renovate the rooms before I’d stay there again, unless you are just dying to stay at a really old motel with wood paneling and such. Or look at it like I did… it was like camping with an old bed and clean sheets in a tent. Still, dogs were welcome for an additional $10 fee. Can’t believe I paid $130 a night though. I’m sure it’ll be much nicer after 2022-2023 renovations. Again, friendly staff. Just don’t expect much from a room standpoint.

Best Bang for the Buck!

Palmera Inn and Suites

Pleasantly surprised. The room was very spacious, full size stove, full size fridge, bar/counter with two tall chairs, full size sofa. Very quiet in the room... I could hear people next door only from the hallway, but never from inside my room. The breakfast buffet was very limited, but hey, it's free. They do serve Starbucks in their coffee dispensers. Friendly staff. Clean rooms, clean lobby and comfortable all-around. A raccoon must have gotten into the trash outside the building I was in as trash was scattered all over the back pet walk area. I let the front desk know, and it was immediately cleaned up. Very responsive. The only minor downside was that the bathroom was pretty tight. Not much room to put anything on the counter... though they did have a couple of shelves below to store items. Bottom line, you simply can't go wrong with the spacious room for the price. I brought my two dogs and had no issues whatsoever. It is very close to the central grocery store (Kroger), shops/restaurants, and also close to Shelter Cove Marina (1 mile away). They plan to renovate the current buildings, but they are a great choice as is for travel with pets. Highly recommend!
