Dogs aren’t allowed on any trails, which was a little disappointing. However, considering that there’s an abundance of dog owners who let their animals chase after wildlife and somehow “forget” to pick up their poo, I can understand why.
Despite the aforementioned inconvenience, I still had a good time. The trails I hiked alone did not fall short of my expectations; they were beautiful!
- HadeelMay 5, 2023Not very dog friendly
This park was not very dog friendly if you’re trying to hike. The only trails that were dog friendly were .1 miles

dogs are only allowed in your car and in parking lots…I would not call that dog friendly…maybe if you only came to the Badlands to drive around but I’d like to hike with my dog and at least go on a boardwalk to a cliff edge…huge no pets signs everywhere means not dog friendly at all!
- AndiAug 21, 2022Surprisingly dog friendly!
most National Parks are very anti dog, but everyone had their dog here and he had a fabulous time staring at the massive buffalo in utter disbelief! lol his first experience with a buffalo and with prairie dogs! he loved them both and sat and stared forever lol

Words let alone pictures or videos dont do this place justice. It is absolutely gorgeous, it is worth whatever drive it takes to get you there. My dog loved seeing the wildlife, it was such a great experience.

There's nowhere on earth that looks like Badlands. The drive through the rock formations is incredible and there are plenty of places to pull over and snap a pic of your pup. The trails aren't pet-friendly, but you can go for a walk on the grass next to the visitor center.

The view at Badlands is simply amazing. Dogs unfortunately aren't allowed on trails but you can drive through the park with them and stop at look out points. They have signs at certain look out points that dogs aren't allowed on the platform so we just stayed in the parking area.
- HaileyNov 5, 2020Beautiful Scenic Area
The Badlands were gorgeous to look at. We only had time on our road trip to stop at the first scenic spot on the left as soon as you pass the gate but just this area by itself was beautiful. We were able to have our dogs with us they just had to be on a leash. There are some areas though that dogs are not allowed. Be aware though it costs $30 per vehicle to enter the park but your ticket is good for 7 days.
