    Great Park for Small Dogs

My chihuahua and I love visiting Jack Carter! The trail from the parking lot is well kept and there is a nice shaded area with seating to enjoy in the warmer months. There is a walking path inside the park to stay active, and the small dog park especially is much larger than others in the area.

    Mostly good

We had an awful experience at Jack Carter Dog Park this morning. I post my experience to bring awareness. We love the park and take our German Shepherd, Gabby, out there to run and play and chase the ball four to five times a week. We have often seen an older, tall, big-bellied man there with a black and white, bob-tailed Australian Shepherd mix, male dog that looks to weigh about 50lbs or so. He is an intact male. He is a nasty, instigating little mutt from our experience. He trolls around the park with his hackles up and growling, mostly pacing the perimeter of the park and being aggressive and intrusive with other dogs. He approached us once with his cranky attitude and we backed off. I asked the owner what was wrong with him and he chuckled and said; "He's bipolar". This morning that nasty little dog instigated a fight with a pit bull mix and it turned into something I will not soon forget. Other dogs ran to join in and many were injured, possibly even to their own demise, because the pit bull would simply not let go of their necks. When he did release a dog, he quickly grabbed another. The Australian mix instigated this fight with the pit and many other dogs were injured because of it. Many people left the park in a rush to the emergency vet with bloody, injured dogs and in hysteria themselves. If you see the tubby man and his nasty dog, beware. The older woman who owned the red haired pit bull mix should not have been there if she could not control her dog, either. It was awful and I'm uncertain if we will go back due to the riff raff. I've gone there for over 10 years with my dogs and this is the first time this has happened for those of you new to the park, but I will not soon forget the screams and cries from the dog owners or the screams, cries, and whimpering from the brutalized dogs.

Huge Park But With Little Shade

This park is huge and offers great drinking fountains for the pups but I only wish there were more trees inside the park for shade.

    Not that great. Needs improvement

We have just this one dog park in Plano - there are absolutely no trees for shade which makes the park too hot for dogs during warm and hot months! The park needs re-sodding because even for a light drizzle, the ground gets muddy and they close it indefinitely, making it difficult for us pet owners!
They have lots of empty land opposite the park - the city can put in a dog pond also, just like North Bark park in Dallas.

The park is closed for construction until October 2014. We are adding shade, and lighting and improving amenities. Please be patient.
