Waggin Trail

All Park patrons must comply with the park rules as stated. Persons failing to comply with the rules may be subject to a formal complaint filed with the North Kansas City Police Department. Persons asked to leave the park premises who do not comply may be subject to prosecution for trespassing. Off-leash dog areas are for dogs and their handlers. No animals other than dogs shall be permitted in the areas. No other use is permitted, including skateboard, bicycles, scooters, strollers and rollerblades. Handlers must “scoop the poop” and dispose of waste in designated Park provided container. (Ordinance 6.12.120) To create a positive experience for you and your dog, make sure your dog knows how to appropriately socialize with other dogs before using the Park. Dog owners assume all risk related to the use of the Dog Park. The Cities of North Kansas City or Kansas City shall not be liable for any injury or damage caused by dogs or handlers. Handlers are responsible for any injuries caused by dog(s) under their control. Dogs that exhibit aggressive behavior are not allowed in the park. Dogs must be removed immediately from park at the first sign of aggression. (Ordinance 6.12.090) Dogs in the Small Dog area are to be less than 30 pounds. No dogs under the age of 4 months are allowed. All dogs exceeding 30 pounds are required to use the Large Dog area. Female dogs in heat and dogs with fresh wounds are not allowed in the Dog Park. (Ordinance 6.12.100) All dogs must be current on their vaccinations along with displaying current tag on a collar or harness. (Ordinance 6.12.020) SPIKED COLLARS ARE NOT ALLOWED. All animal to human bites must be reported to the City of North Kansas City Animal Control Department immediately. (Ordinance 6.16.020) Dogs must be on leash, a maximum length of 6 feet, when entering and exiting the off-leash dog areas. Handlers must have possession of the dog leash at all times. No dogs are allowed within the off-leash area while restrained by a leash. Children 5 and under are not allowed in the off-leash dog areas. Children 6 – 15 must be accompanied by an adult and handlers must be a minimum of 16 years of age. Dogs must be under voice control of their handler and in view of their handler at all times. Only 2 dogs are allowed per handler. Handlers must repair all holes and damage done by their dog under their supervision. Park Hours of Operation are 6AM to Sunset or 9PM whichever comes first.

The Liberty Dog Park was constructed in the fall of 2011. It includes 3 acres of fully fenced area for dogs to enjoy. The Dog Park is located within Stocksdale Park on the east side of Liberty. Water is available.

Heritage Park

The Heritage Park Dog Off-Leash Area is a great spot for your canine to enjoy! It is a 30-acre area with a fenced open space and a small pond. The off-leash area is accessible from all entrances of the park but is closest to the entrance at 16240 Lackman Road Please note that weekly maintenance closures are in effect. Maintenance will be scheduled for Tuesdays from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Closures are intended to allow for a higher level of maintenance to the area without compromising dog and patron safety. Trespassing is prohibited when the gate is locked.

Penn Valley Park

Shawnee Mission Park

Shawnee Mission Park, a multi-use, 1,600-acre park is located at 79th and Renner Road in Shawnee, Kansas. It is the largest park in the county and the most visited park in the entire state of Kansas. A 53-acre off-leash dog park, one of the largest in the country, has hiking trails, large open spaces and a 200-foot dog beach. Shawnee Mission Park is home to a number of fantastic amenities as well as a beautiful 120-acre lake. Our beautiful scenic lake is a very popular spot for boating, fishing, sail boarding, and much more. The park also has eleven spacious shelters, numerous picnic areas, nature trails, play areas, an archery range, a disc golf course, and is a great place to enjoy mountain biking and horseback riding. The park is also home to The Theatre in the Park, Shawnee Mission Park Beach, and Shawnee Mission Park Marina. In season, there are canoes, pedal boats, and fishing boats available for rent at the marina.

This 4 acre park features Lee's Summit's first off leash dog park. The park circles a Lee's Summit water tower which allowed LSPR to partner with LS Water Utilities to develop the otherwise unused land.

Shawnee Mission Off Leash Dog Park

A fun place for your canine family member to run and play! Located east of the observation tower on John Barkley Drive, the 53-acre off-leash area features a dog swim area along with wood chip and natural surface trails through grassland and wooded areas. Our off-leash area also includes paved parking and portable toilets. The area is open year-round during regular park hours except Tuesdays from 5:00 am to 9:00 am for routine maintenance. Elkhound Ranch Kennel Dog park & Trail

Elkhound Ranch offers a complete fenced in area with shade and room to run. Along with a scenic mowed trail on the rest of the land with ponds.

Wyandotte County Lake Park Trails

Starting right before Shelter 9 in a large wooded area on the east side of the lake, you will find the trailhead for the WyCo Single Track Trail. From the trailhead there are several options for trails, all interconnect with each other at points along the way and eventually loop back to the beginning. The trails are well marked and you'll find multiple maps along the way so you don't get lost. This is a popular fishing, picnic, and biking area so you will encounter much of this as you walk the trail around the lake. Most of the trails are hard packed dirt, but several sections are gravel and/or rocks. On the West side of the park there is an off-leash dog park.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Although dogs are not permitted inside the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, they are welcome to enjoy the sculpture and art on the beautiful grounds with their humans. Dogs must be leashed at all times, and humans must clean up after their canine companions.
