Fido’s Favorite Yappy Hours

Posted by Lauren Barker

A dog walks into a bar… It’s not a joke, he’s just the guest of honor at a swanky Yappy Hour. From food and drink specials at restaurants to weekly canine “pawties” for a good cause, these pet-friendly social gatherings offer a fun and unique way of getting spoiled with your pooch.

Bring Fido to Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers to shop, dine and mingle with other furry fashionistas at the Bell Tower Yappy Hour. Pets are always welcome in many of the stores and on the outdoor patios of restaurants like Blue Pointe Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill, but on the second Friday of each month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., canine customers can join their humans for a special night on the town. Visit Bell Tower’s center court where pets can take part in costume contests, win prizes, and munch on treats while pet owners can enjoy food and drink specials, shopping and live music. Many of the pet-friendly stores provide special yappy hour surprises, too. Just look for the Boston Terrier sticker on the shop doors. Pet relief areas are located throughout the center as well.

Stay within walking distance of Bell Tower Shops at Homewood Suites by Hilton Fort Myers and enjoy more happy hour specials across the street at Shoeless Joe’s.

Wonder Bar, located just off the famous Asbury Park Boardwalk in New Jersey, has hosted some of the biggest legends of rock ‘n’ roll. Dog lover and New Jersey local Bruce Springsteen has rocked the stage here and has even been spotted at their famous Yappy Hour. The bar’s outdoor space, Tillie’s Landing, invites dogs to play in the sand while their owners enjoy a cocktail from the tiki bar. Tillie’s Landing is fenced in so Fido can be off leash to rock out with his friends. It’s also equipped with paddling pools, an agility area and a time-out section for pooches who need a break from all the fun.

Yappy Hour season at Wonder Bar runs from June through September and takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and noon to 8 p.m. on weekends. Mondays and Wednesdays are reserved for small dogs only. The entrance fee is $10 per person on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and free on other days. Proceeds benefit Asbury Boardwalk Rescue and other local charities.

Worn-out pups can rest up at The Asbury, where they’re welcome to join their owners on the pool deck and in the lobby bar, and a portion of the $75 pet fee goes to a local animal shelter.

Every Saturday, Mother Earth Brew Co. in Idaho’s capital city goes to the dogs. Bring your pup along for Yappy Hour from noon to 4 p.m. and you’ll receive a dollar off your first drink. Come sans dog and you’ll pay full price. Canine customers are welcome both outside and inside the taproom, so Yappy Hour takes place rain or shine. Bring your own food or grab something from one of the visiting food trucks. While you’re there, check out the swag and pick Fido up a Mother Earth can of beer dog toy.

Afterward, walk back to your room at Inn at 500 Capitol. Four-legged guests receive bowls, a bed and treats, and dog food is available. Pet-friendly floors lead back to designated pet relief areas with trashcans and waste bags.

The heated outdoor “pawtios” at Stanley’s Northeast Bar Room and The Howe Daily Kitchen & Bar in Minneapolis welcome pups to dine on tasty items from a three-course menu like Nala’s Turkey Meatloaf, K9 Chicken or an NE Pup Burger. Treats by Von Hanson are served as appetizers, Boxer Bites and Homemade Pupcream are options for dessert, and Fido can wash it all down with a Tail Chaser Dog Brew. Best of all, every day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. pups can “pawtake” in Yappy Hour to receive $1 off all entrees and a complimentary Peanut Butter Woofer! There are even yoga mats for your pooch to relax on while dining.

Once everyone’s bellies are full, head back to this one-of-a-kind apartment near the Mississippi River and gather around the outdoor fire pit.

You can both enjoy drink and food specials at the Zoo Brew Beer Garden and Bar, and each dog in attendance will receive a free pup cup whipped cream treat.
