- CarlyFeb 11, 2019Runners w/ Dogs were 2nd Class Participants
Runners with Dogs were schedule 15 minutes later than primary race. There was NO Water for humans or dogs at finish line. In fact, I had to walk all the way to furthest booth to get a bottle of water. All vendors and free food were gone by the time we finished (I finished race in less than 30 minutes). A couple of the sponsors with tents brought dog bowls for water but I was glad I brought my own (and used bottle water to fill it).
When I expressed concerns to Race Director Monica she was dismissive and rude. She raised her voice and took a nasty tone despite me approaching her politely. She said this was more about raising money and awareness for Duchenne and basically said she did not care about dogs. I have nothing against support for the fight against Duchenne but this race was also billed with the Humane Society of Lakewood Ranch and is advertised as a dog-friendly 5k.
I will not participate in this event again. I would not recommend this race to anyone who plans to run with their dog.
