New York City Tartan Day Parade New York City Tartan Day Parade honors Tartan Day, the day proclaimed in the United States to honor its Scottish heritage. Hundreds of thousands of spectators line the streets to watch the procession on Sixth Avenue featuring hundreds of bagpipers, Highland dancers, and thousands of marchers, all lovers of Scotland and all things Scottish. The parade welcomes anyone with a Scottish breed dog to march in the parade. The dogs are separated in three packs: Hebridean Hunting Hounds (including Scottish Deerhounds, Wolf Hounds, Gordon Setters and Golden Retrievers), Highland Herders (including different Collie breeds, Shetland Sheep Dogs, etc.), and Wee Highland Warriors (including West Highland, Scottish and other Terriers).
