Dogs let their alter-egos shine, putting on some of the cutest and most creative costumes you've ever seen at the annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade. The event takes place in the East Village at Tompkins Square dog run from noon until 3pm. CNN calls it "the largest dog costume parade in the world” with hundreds of dogs in costumes and thousands of spectators. The London Guardian says “It’s Barkin’ Mad.”

Nominees were announced in June for Society Paws Awards – the Oscars for Dogs – a fundraiser for Yorkie 911 Rescue. The Awards will be held at Zanger Hall, where pups can bring their leashed parents to the ceremony! • With categories such as Fashion Forward Pup, Twitter Pawsonality, Instagram Pawsonality, Facebook Pawsonality, Rescue Favs, and Pawtographer – Professional, Pawtographer – Candid, Photogenic Pup, Pawpular Pup, Challenger Award, Long Distance Nyer and Honorary Pup, a fun and exciting time is to be had by all. A panel of judges, who will remain anonymous, has voted for the winners of each category to be announced at the event. The purple carpet opens at 2pm for pictures and interviews of the nominees. Take Fido out to the ball game! Join the Mets and North Shore Animal League America for a fun afternoon at the ballpark. Sit together with fellow dog lovers in designated Coca-Cola Corner seats. Arrive early to the Bullpen Gate with your game tickets to participate in the Dog Parade (weather permitting). This gate opens 1 1/2 hours before game time.

The 2017 Paws in the Park will take place at Goffle Brook Park in Hawthorne on October 7th from 10am-3pm with Sunday as the rain date.
