- KarenMar 8, 2024Room was good
Perfectly fine room, and we appreciated being in the Park. I'm sure these buildings were built several decades ago, and the main room is nice, but the bathroom could use an update (and better flushing toilets)
- AmyFeb 8, 2024Location great!
The location for South Rim access is great and the convenience of the restaurants and market were appreciated. The room, however, left a lot to be desired. I get it that the property is really old, but it’s time for an overhaul. You can only patch the problems for so long. Not only was the room sorely worn, but it was poorly cleaned as well. And be sure to check the windows, they were all unlocked, although we realize that as old and flimsy as they were, being locked wouldn’t have been much of a deterrent against crime anyway.
Also, they provide a mini fridge, but you couldn’t heat anything up because there was no microwave. We finally found the blow dryer hiding in the back of the closet rather than in a shelf in the bathroom. So, don’t assume one isn’t provided, just look harder. I’m okay with there not being any internet as the weather was wonderful and we only had to sleep in the room. I’m not okay with housekeeping pounding (yes, I mean pounding) on our door at 8:30 in the morning, waking everyone in the room up. The Do Not Disturb sign on the door and the fact that we hadn’t checked out yet should have been a clue for the housekeeping staff. Not the worst place we’ve ever had to stay, but just know that it’s quite worn and not the cleanest.
- JeffreyDec 4, 2023Great stay!
Ultra clean, comfy, dog-friendly accommodations at Vavapai Lodge!! Thanks!
- KirstenNov 29, 2023Great location, easy with dogs
This lodge is right inside the national park, very close to the south rim (about a 20 min walk or 3 min drive). You can park directly outside the rooms for easy loading/unloading. Rooms are decent, not overly modern but comfortable. There is lots of space to walk the dog right by the lodge. The dog friendly rooms have a large dog crate in them as well. The rim trails are dog friendly (on leash). Not a lot of waste receptacles but there are some near picnic areas. The park info has more detail regarding pet rules. There are also kennel services - I did not use them but just saw that they’re available. This is a great spot to access the national park. There is a marketplace where you can purchase supplies, etc. You pay the entrance fee before you get to the lodge.
- CorinneOct 1, 2023Great dog friendly place
Wonderful, welcoming place. Easy walking distance to rim trail where dogs are allowed as well as a patio to have lunch or dinner at. Abundant wildlife. There were elk outside our door which freaked our pup out some. Room was comfortable but carpet was a dirty. Check-in was not as smooth as it should have been but it worked out. Would definitely stay here again.
- MichelleAug 29, 2023A majestic, sacred, dog friendly place
I stayed an extra night here, not just because of the glorious Grand Canyon, but because my pups and I felt so warmly welcomed. The room is perfect for us and has plenty of walking trails in the shade for them. They are allowed on all the major sidewalks in the canyon, and I have some glorious pictures of them viewing the stars at night! The dogs are welcome to eat outside at the tavern, and they provide both of water. A must-stay if you are going to Grand Canyon.
- KimAug 25, 2023This lodge is the best!
Nice rooms. Very accommodating. Staff is superb!
- MichaelJul 20, 2023Just Do It
We are so excited about this wonderful place. Upon arrival we found a comfy dog kennel for our guy to use. The restaurant was first class and just a short walk away. Overall, pur-fect for our dog, cat and us.
- ReneJul 13, 2023Grand Canyon Adventure
Front desk staff is great. Lodge in the park. Room has a great window by the bed our dog loved to lay under and look out at the Elk. Room could have been cleaner; not because of past dogs, just lazy housekeeping.
- SusanApr 27, 2023Good but a little tired looking
Very convenient for a visit to the Grand Canyon. The pet accommodations were okay but could use some TLC, especially the outside area.
- KristinApr 26, 2023Super Pet friendly and Great Location!
My husband and I stayed here with our two dogs April 24th through April 26th and we very pleased. The designated “pet friendly” rooms are not super fancy, but they are comfortable and have all the amenities we needed- including being close to walking paths and an easy walk to the canyon itself. The staff was friendly and efficient, and we had a great time (especially our dogs!)
- MichaelApr 19, 2023Exceeded all expectations!
Everything about the Yavapai Lodge was terrific, starting with all the staff who were uniformly cheerful, efficient, informative and welcoming at every step along the way. They were great about dogs and were happy to have our puppy join us for meals in the lodge dining area. Our room was simple but recently redone, so it had tons of charging outlets as well as new lamps, bathroom fixtures, etc. We were able to park directly outside our room door, making loading and unloading easy. This also meant that our dog had ready access to the surrounding woods which made that aspect of traveling with a pet easy.
The dining hall has simple but reasonably good food at a reasonable cost. The large market place is close by and has everything you could want. We were visiting during the low season, but the Lodge staff are obviously used to dealing with a lot of visitors with calm, friendly efficiently. The Lodge itself is inside the part perimeter, so once you are in through the park entrance gates, you can easily and quickly get to everything you might want to see and do.
One note of caution has nothing to do with the Yavapai Lodge: the Rim Walk is an unbelievable experience, but for most of it, there are no fences or guardrails. You are walking comfortably on a concrete path next to a drop-off of thousands of fee. It can be a little terrifying, especially if you have an exuberant puppy who loves to chase the squirrels. So be prepared to keep your dog under control!
- CMar 1, 2023Great location for visiting Grand Canyon
Room was so-so. And the place has many buildings so you may end up far from the main lodge where the restaurants and other shops and activities are. Price was OK but not great for what we got. I'd look into other options and keep this one in reserve. Oh and there restaurant process for at least one of the choices is ridiculous. You stand in a long line whether you want to order food or just a drink. This makes no sense at all. And the staff was not very friendly either. Try to smile once in a while.
- KathyFeb 15, 2023Bare bones!
Nothing conveniently located for meals. No complimentary breakfast. Trails are great near Mather Point.
Weather was an issue. It was super cold. Lots of snow on the ground. - AllisonJan 11, 2023Wonderful experience
First time visiting the Grand Canyon and Yavapai lodge was a great place to stay! The room was quiet, nice and clean. They provided a crate and bowls in the room already which we didn’t use but I was happy to see that they truly meant that they are pet friendly. We saw several Elk on our walks just around our room and we could also see them outside in the snow from our room just having a snack. It was truly magical and it snowed our second night there so good job keeping the trails, sidewalks and roads plowed. I experienced no problems although initially concerned about the weather. The location was super convenient, close to the South Rim so not much of a drive to see the actual Grand Canyon and there are restaurants and convenience stores near by. Staying here allowed me to explore the Grand Canyon without having to drive hours upon hours since I live out of state and being able to bring my fur kids along was the ultimate peace of mind. Thank you to all of the staff.
- RayDec 18, 2022Great location
Near the Grand Canyon.
- LyndaDec 15, 2022Cabin feel
We had a room that was dirty, but they gave us a new one right away. Good beds.
- LouiseNov 22, 2022Great stay
We found the location to be great, with forest like walking surrounding the buildings, and the stillness one appreciates in nature. The room was spotlessly clean, as well as the generous sized kennel crate and steel bowls. The room had no odor of previous guests. I would highly recommend for a Grand Canyon South rim trip. This was our first hotel travel with our dog, and the bar has been set! I look forward to more adventures with her.
- ChristineNov 11, 2022Great place to stay in Grand Canyon
If you want to bring your dog to the Grand Canyon, the Yavapai Lodge is the perfect place to stay. The rooms are a little rustic, but very clean and tidy. Great places to walk your dog around the lodge as it is in the forest. Dogs are allowed on all the rim trails in the park, so we had a great walk while viewing the breathtaking views of the canyon.
- SueOct 24, 2022Great place to bring dogs
We enjoyed our stay and it was set up nicely for our dogs. The only issue was no internet in the rooms. So we had to hot spot it. Not ideal to do some business. Other than that it was good. Perhaps a microwave in the room would also be handy. We would have stayed elsewhere if we had known about the internet set up.
- LauraOct 15, 2022Party Motel in Kana, Utah
So so wonderful. Where the old cowboy movie stars stayed. Very nostalgic. Old barn shows old flicks at night. Dog friendly restaurants in walking distance. Very dog friendly ground floor, park in front great dog areas. A treat! We stayed an extra night!
- TarynJul 14, 2022Great camping vibe
Pup loved the atmosphere and so did we. Short walk to Mather’s Point, which is where we wanted to see the Grand Canyon. Cool nature surrounding our building - we saw multiple elk!
- KatyMar 2, 2022Cozy and comfy
Single level motel style with renovated interior. Nothing too extravagant but comfortable and had everything we needed. They provide a large kennel and dog bowls in the room as well as poo bags with trash cans outside the rooms. Close walk on a paved path to the grocery store and Yavapai tavern, which has a dog friendly patio. We were very happy with our stay!
- FayFeb 27, 2022Great time!
Room was a little dated but clean. Location was perfect to walk the rim trail with doggie. Restaurant and market close by for snacks and meals. All in all loved our trip to the Grand Canyon!!!
- KathyFeb 25, 2022Wonderful experience!
Good location. Lots of room to walk our dogs. Crate & bowls provided in the room! 😃
- JimFeb 15, 2022Great location and accommodations
Our room was clean, quiet, and convenient location. Able to walk to the edge of the Grand Canyon.
- PryceFeb 5, 2022Such a comfortable stay!
We are used to dog friendly hotels being pretty basic, but that is definitely not true for Yavapai! It was such a cute room and so close to the canyon rim, only took about 15-20 min to walk to it! Definitely recommend!
- SpringJan 11, 2022WONDERFUL!
The lodges are quiet, clean, and I felt like a part of nature. This in not a luxury hotel! These were perfectly comfortable cabin-like rooms.
- MylieJan 9, 2022Wonderful Stay
Such a cute hotel, our pup loved the room and watching deer from the pretty window area. Nice and modern upgrades to an older style hotel. Feels like simple elegance. Clean and comfy with a nice coffee maker and cruelty free toiletries. Perfect location of course. Only issue was thin walls and neighbors were partying late into the night. Would definitely come back.
- NancyJan 8, 2022Great location
Loved staying in the Park. Great access to the rim and all amenities. Clean, comfortable rooms surrounded by trees. So peaceful. Thank you!
- RonaldSep 8, 2021Great room, no microwave!
Rooms were awesome as far as location, cleanliness, and comfort, but lacked a microwave so we could heat the meals we had prepared for our dogs. Only lodging on our 17 day trip that lacked this feature.
- LarisaAug 22, 2021Great location and very welcoming
Staff was very friendly and the hotel was clean with an aesthetic appeal.
- AnneJun 19, 2021Grand Canyon dog friendly
Yavapai Lodge was built in the 1950's. Rooms retain the original footprint but have been modernized. Nice bedding for a national park and air conditioning. Our dog-friendly room came with a large kennel and dog bowls. Dogs are allowed on the paved greenway and South Rim trails. We took several long walks with our dog while we were there.
- JudyMay 29, 2021Great location. Park closed due to COVID
COVID shut everything we wanted to do here down. But the location was great and the room was comfortable.
- SarahMay 11, 2021Great Place!
We had a lovely stay at the Yavapai Lodge! The staff was incredible, the rooms are great. Thank you!
- SusanMay 5, 2021Great spot
Everyone was friendly(we had our 2 dogs with us). The room was great and the Window looked out to woods so when we woke up it felt like we were camping. Proximity to the canyon was awesome. Would definitely stay here again!
- KeshlanMar 24, 2021Great rooms and facilities for dogs
Loved the updated rooms at the Lodge. They cater very well for dogs with large crates and food bowls. Certainly five stars for those facilities.
No wifi to speak of. Antiquated approach to checking-in (having a different surname to my wife was an issue!!!). - JohnMar 10, 2021My Labardor loved it
Perfect for bringing our one year old lab on a quick weekend getaway
- NormanMar 6, 2021Grand Canyon
Great setting, rooms and hiking.
- DawnFeb 13, 2021What a beautiful location
This location is beautiful inside the park. Rooms looks like they had been recently updated. Simple but comfortable beds, they had a nice big kennel for my boy. Although he wouldn’t use it. These are the large plastic kennels very nice, he’s use to a large metal crate, kennel. They supplied bowls. We had brought our own. Things where closed due to Covid but a nice deli with hot good and general market for shopping. They had refrigerators no microwaves or coffee makers also because if Covid I was told. They supplied free coffee at the deli and said there was a microwave in the lobby if anyone wanted to use it. It was the perfect getaway to clear your head. The only negative I had was the acoustics in the rooms. They are cinder block walls but it was also part of the charm so you could easily here next door but I had a nice neighbors wasn’t an issue and I was traveling alone with just my boy. What is a perfect getaway again like I said that would be the only thing I’d be conscious of if you are sensitive to noise or your dog is to request if you can have a room separated or if you were allowed person to be cautious of those around you. We are looking forward to going back!
- ScottJan 17, 2021Pet room not confirmed.
The lodge did not have a pet friendly room despite booking through BringFido. We negotiated our way through it but it took some effort.
- KevinDec 8, 2020Good times
It Was a great time
- JoanNov 5, 2020Great location
Provided dog crate and bowls. Super clean
- TeriNov 4, 2020Good Times!
We needed a place to getaway and unwind - just me, my husband and our Westies. Yavapai was the perfect place. The location is ideal - near the rim, trails, the general store, and not far from the park entrance. The amenities are simple and the room was clean. Parking right outside the room (motel style) is great. Due to COVID there was. I housekeeping but it was fine for our short stay (3 nights). Complimentary coffee at the general store was a plus
- KyleneOct 26, 2020Great location!
A little rustic but looked like it had recently been refurbished. Less than a mile to the rim!
- JessicaOct 26, 2020Perfect spot for a pup at the canyon
Super dog friendly with a kennel and water bowl in the room! Every morning there were elk right outside our lodge and it was walking distance to the rim (10 mins). No complaints!
- CyndieOct 20, 2020Great Place To The Stay In The Park
Yavapai Lodge was a great first hotel experience with our pup. The place was clean and they had a kennel and dog bowls all set up in the room when we arrived. The staff was very friendly and there were plenty of places to walk around (on leash). We would absolutely stay again.
- JamesJul 6, 2020Stay!
Great location, very nice room and very pet friendly. Food and water bowls and a treat in the room when we arrived. Loved it.
- JessicaJun 28, 2020Loved it
Great location in proximity to the canyon and trails. Kennel included with dog bowls and a treat! We will absolutely stay here again!
- LoriJun 19, 2020Great location pup friendly!
So fun! Great location and the restaurant had a dog tavern you could bring your dog too and enjoy a meal outside on the patio with them! I had my dog in a stroller (she is old and has had two knee surgeries) I was able to bring her on the many trails and even in the grocery store. The rooms are easy access with many areas to run your dog, the rooms have a dog kennel if you need to leave your pup in an air conditioned room while you head out for a bit.
- KimberlyFeb 29, 2020Fantastic Spot!
This hotel is between .5 and .75 miles from the visitor’s center and South Rim trail and there is a path across the street making it easy to walk there. The hotel itself was nice and clean (much nicer than expected from Yelp reviews). We had a really nice stay and it exceeded our expectations. The staff were all very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would definitely stay here again with or without my dogs.
- DianaJan 13, 2020Dog Friendly!
Great place to stay. Walking distance to Grand Canyon. Even a personal kennel for your dog if you have to leave them in the room, though we never would. The tavern is also dog friendly and has a fire and heaters. We have stayed twice and will be back to Yavapai Lodge.
