- KrisMay 14, 2024Super Dog Friendly!
We were greeted warmly and allowed to take the dogs to the upper porch. Wonderful food! Great service! Interesting ghost stories!! Liked it so much we came back later in the week. Reservations are a wise choice!
- SashaMar 24, 2024Very Dog Friendly! 🐾
We stumbled upon this restaurant while we were walking with our dog and were very pleased with our experience! It was super dog friendly. The waitstaff gave our dog a water bowl and carrots! 🥕The food was excellent and the atmosphere was great too.
- AdamFeb 23, 2024Super dog friendly
Brought our dog water when we arrived and cooked her a burger patty. Food was great and they gave us a little history lesson on Poogan and the resident ghost.
- KerriAug 6, 2023A Brunch must have!!
wonderful chicken & waffles, French toast, fried green tomatoes and of course mimosas!! def dog friendly
- MargaretJul 7, 2023Not my favorite, and overpriced
the service was great, everyone loved our pups and we got water right away. Food was ok. I asked for my eggs over medium and I just started to cut into one and the egg white was still completely raw. It was the first time I ever sent something back, but it was immediately replaced. For 2 of us to eat, the total came to $78, which was a bit on the high side.
- JillJun 24, 2023Disappointing
We came in near the end of the lunch rush. The staff were pretty dismissive of us and rude. They insisted we take our dogs off the porch in a pretty brusque way. We’d heard good things so the treatment was pretty disappointing. We ended up not staying for lunch because they really didn’t seem to want us there. Sad experience.
- AshleyMar 17, 2023Must-do
If you’re traveling to Charleston with your pup, this is a must-do restaurant. We made a porch reservation ahead of time and it was perfect. Service was fast, food was delicious, and our pup enjoyed the porch view.
- LisaOct 19, 2022Great food and Service with puppy
we went for lunch and sat on the back porch. They had lots of options but not any pulled pork which I was hoping for so I ate the burger and we also had the Mac and cheese. both were delicious and the service was excellent.
- VeronicaSep 3, 2022Great restaurant!
The porch is small but dog friendly! The food and the service was great and brought out a water bowl for my dog. One thing to note is the porch is out front of the restaurant on a small street with frequent horse carriages - if you’re dog isn’t “horse friendly”
- JordanJun 11, 2022Dog friendly got us a table and water
we received seating immediately to accommodate her. and water and a bowl. dog friendly.
- SharonAug 4, 2021Fantastic!
Great place to dine with your pup! We were seated on the rear porch within 10 minutes (highly unusual!) and enjoyed an excellent meal. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They immediately brought us a bowl of water for Max before we could ask for one. I think God was smiling on us today as the sky was overcast and only 73 degrees outside! That never happens in August in Charleston! We couldn't have asked for a better experience-exceptional meal, professional service, special treatment for our dog and incredible weather. You should go!
- CoreyFeb 27, 2021Ask For Back Porch
They have a back and a front porch, both look great but we were fortunate enough to be put on the back deck and it was super. They allow you to take the dog right through the restaurant. It was covered, it was quiet, our pup was so calm and happy. Staff and food were great, would return.
- RickFeb 4, 2021Disappointed
We were excited about finding a dog-friendly restaurant with great reviews (my one-star review here is based on our personal experience - we are sure the food is great.) We were in Charleston for our first time ever on a long-distance trip and chose to stay downtown and go out for a special meal to celebrate an anniversary. We probably will never have another opportunity to visit this historic city. We arrived during an extended cold snap and I really didn't think we'd be able to bring our dog (who we couldn't leave in a hotel room) but was assured when I called Poogan's the night before that there are porches that would be comfortable despite the weather. We observed the next day that various local restaurants have protected porches with heaters, so we figured that would be the case at Poogan's as well. Instead, when we arrived at our reserved time, we were directed to the front porch which was wide open and exposed to a stiff breeze. There was no evidence that our arrival was anticipated (we had confirmed twice by text in advance) and the cold metal tables and chairs on the porch did not look like they were prepared for guests. It was 45 degrees and falling rapidly and there was no way we were going to eat an expensive and unheated meal outdoors with winter clothing on (we wouldn't even expect our dog to be out in the cold that long while we ate.). I wondered if some mistake had been made, but the hostess just shrugged and said she didn't know anything about the situation. We ended up awkwardly leaving and buying some inexpensive take-out along the street to eat in our room for our anniversary. We were totally disappointed and I called the restaurant to speak with a manager to ask why this happened. There was no answer (I had trouble getting through the day before, too) and left a detailed but very polite message asking for a call-back. Two days later, I haven't received one - thus this review. Bottom line: Poogan's Porch is not pet-friendly during cold weather, which is sort of what I assumed before I was told otherwise by the restaurant and persuaded to make a reservation that resulted in much disappointment on what was intended to be a special day.
- PattiJan 26, 2021Great Food, Very Dog-friendly
We were seated at a table on the upper balcony. It was the perfect place for our dog to watch everything happening on the street. The staff was very friendly to us and our dog. The food was fantastic! We had cheese fritters with a bacon jam and the chicken and waffles. Both are highly recommended. Great place.
- DawnJul 2, 2020Best meal we had on this trip
We got here right as it was opening on a Monday night. They seated us right away on the front porch and brought our dog (Riley) a bowl of water right away. Dinner was great, food was really good, and they even made a chicken breast for Riley. Prices were good for such a nice meal. We will definitely come back again if we get back to Charleston.
- GianniJun 13, 2019Extremely Dog Friendly
The servers were great with my Italian Greyhound. Brought him water and all were so friendly and wanted to say hello.
- JessicaMay 11, 2019So Welcoming And Friendly To Our Fur Baby!
Couldn’t be more pleased with how we and our pup were treated by staff and fellow customers!
- KarenMay 8, 2019Southern Cuisine
We had a yummy dinner here having authentic Southern cuisine for the first time. I had booked a reservation online and alerted the staff about our two dogs. They noted it in their system and sat us upstairs on the porch. Felt like a true southern experience. Porch and seating were a little dirty from bird droppings and a bit crammed. The food made up for it though and is on the pricier end.
Recommend: pimento cheese balls, fried chicken, and pecan pie
- KatieApr 24, 2019Great Brunch And Great Servuce
I can’t say enough about that brunch we had at this place! The pulled pork eggs Benedict was mouthwatering. The service was great. We sat in the sun but they offered for us to wait and sit in the shade if we wished. Someone immediately brought out water for my dog and they were all so friendly to him. They pet him every time they walked by. I recommend making a reservation if you don’t want to wait for a shady spot. It seems like a busy spot and were there at 12:30 on a Wednesday. Apparently they have the best shrimp and grits in Charleston too, just a heads up. Will definitely go back there if we’re in town again :)
- MichelleApr 21, 2019Great Place for an Evening Out!
We went on Easter Sunday around 5 p.m. Our party of 6 did not have to wait. We were taken to a table on the back patio that was sheltered and shaded. The waiter brought Angel ice water almost immediately. We did not have to ask for it. Other dog owners were also enjoying the nice setting. We felt very welcome.
The food was delicious, but the menu was limited. Entrees are a little pricey. Probably not a good choice if you have kids in your party. - DevanMar 16, 2019Treated My Dog Like Royalty
We got a table for 2 within minutes, and were able to walk through the restaurant to the back porch. The area was shaded and the waitress brought my puppy water right away! Food was great and the staff made sure my dog was comfortable and happy!
- LisaMore than a year agoWonderful experience
Not only was the food amazing but the staff made us feel so welcomed. Our pittie girl was treated so well!
- BrianJun 23, 2018Great place for you and your best friend!
We made reservations for a Saturday night and had a great dinner on the porch with our pups. This was our second visit. They were so great serving us and our pups that we made reservations for brunch the next morning!
- LisaApr 30, 2018unfriendly, seems to begrudgingly welcome dogs
For a place we chose simply because it was 'dog-friendly' it was a dissapointment. We were sat in the hot sun with no shade for the dogs and had to ask a few times for water for them. Ate up quickly and left as the heat was unbearable and we did not feel particularly welcome with the dogs
- LaurenMore than a year agoGreat experience
Good food and drinks. People watching. Front patio and porch dog friendly
- SheenaMore than a year agoDog friendly Patio
We had a great experience here! Went for brunch on a Saturday, no reservation and so we put our name on the list for a patio table and they texted us about 30 mins later to let us know our table was ready. While we waited we walked along King St. Waiters greeted us and our dogs and brought out water, food was very good especially the biscuits and whipped honey butter that was complimentary!
- BessMore than a year agoNice porch
After enjoying a walking tour of downtown Charleston, my husband and I came here because we it is dog friendly. Did not realize that is only served brunch though. However we had the shrimp and grits and it was fantastic!. Angel was greeted warmly by the staff and given ice water to drink. Even the hostess came out to greet Angel!
- MaggieMore than a year agoGreat food, okay atmosphere for your dog
Poogan's Porch was my favorite restaurant in Charleston by far. I completely recommend it. However, I had called ahead when I made a reservation and explained I had my dog with me. When we arrived there was a spot for two on the porch. When I explained to the hostess that I had my dog she said "You should have called" rudely. I had to snap back at her and explain I did. Everyone else was fine, the waiter brought our dog water and he just sat under the table relaxing. I would keep the dog you bring under 35 lbs, there just isn't space for a larger dog. Overall amazing amazing restaurant that I 100% recommend but watch the bigger dogs!
- Mary VandiverMore than a year agoGreat experience!!!
From start to finish, visiting Poogan's Porch was exceptional. The look of the restaurant is charming on steroids, the service first rate, the menu selection large and varied, and the food itself is beyond excellent. Thank you, BringFido.com for guiding us there! (Also, the wonderful manager brought our Lilly a bowl of water nearly immediately after we were seated on the delightful porch.)

Make reservations if you plan on dining here! Outdoor seating was very limited and cramped, the waiter had to step over my dog each time he passed. The food was quite tasty!
- KarinMore than a year agoIt was hot!
As I was with my dog Vienna, I had to sit on the patio, and it was an extremely hot day. Vienna was not offered any water, though the waiter brought me a second glass of water when requested, and I poured it into my travel bowl.
I had the salad with chicken pieces, and there were only 6 pieces which I thought was rather skimpy. The jalapeno-mustard dressing was a bit spicy for me, so the waiter did bring me some balsamic dressing to add. Oddly, they did not have any plain honey-mustard dressing.
The salad was tasty, and my cocktail was surprisingly strong. The waiter was very nice about adding more lemonade once I had drunk some of it.
This was not the best restaurant for a dog on a very hot summer day. - DaveMore than a year agoOctober 2015
Saturday brunch was great. Not a bad wait time for outside seating with dogs.
Worth the wait - JanieMore than a year agoDisappointed
Made a reservation for 11 am. When we arrived at 10:50 am one of the staff said you know our kitchen doesn't open till 11, not a great welcome. We went because we had our dog. They did bring him water but sat us directly in the sun on a 90 degree day. Not friendly for dog or human. Expensive, average food and unwelcoming attitude. Would not suggest.
- MicheleMore than a year agoGreat restaurant
We found the staff very dog friendly and we were able to sit on the front porch in slightly chilly Dec. weather. I think it felt even colder to the waitress than to us, but she was really nice. We had a delicious brunch- some of the best fried oysters I've ever had and they have good oysters in my home state. My husband loved the blueberry sauce with a kick that came with his chicken and waffles. This is one of the places we are most looking forward to revisiting when we travel in a couple of weeks.
- CalebMore than a year agoSunday Brunch Review
We went for Sunday Brunch right when it opened and were seated immediately with both of our pups and no fuss. The waitress was extremely friendly and very attentive to our needs. We weren't brought a bowl of water, which I was a little surprised by, but we didn't ask for one either and it was a cool morning and the dogs were well hydrated so it wasn't at all a big deal.
The Fried Green Tomatoes were an excellent starter. My wife's chicken and waffles were a huge plate, as was my platter of french toast. A little pricy for breakfast, but worth it for the setting, the service and the quality of the food and portion sizes.

Great brunch and friendly to our little Cooper. Would recommend bringing your dog here! :)

The service and food was great. They seated us within 15 minutes and brought out a bowl of water for our dog.

I had eaten here years ago and enjoyed it. I had seen this place listed as dog friendly and one would think a restaurant with a dog buried in the front yard would be friendly to dog. My husband and I walked about 5 miles to eat here this Wednesday evening. We arrived about 5:15 pm. Only one couple was on the porch. There were at least six tables vacant outside. I went in to see about service for us. I was told that they were on taking any walk ins this evening. So not only were they not dog friendly, they were not people friendly. I was exhausted. One of the wait staff did get a bowl of water with ice cubes for the dogs as he was not aware that we would not be welcome to eat there this particular evening. While I might expect a place to have full reservations for a Friday, I certainly did not for Wednesday and it was obviously not full or even begun to fill when we arrived.

We had an excellent time at Poogan's Porch. Our server, Jim, welcomed my husband, my dog, Coco and me. We were seated immediately and had a wonderful lunch. Very friendly staff and courteous and professional. Would return.
- PamMore than a year agoPoogan's staff to the rescue!
We had the most delightful dinner the other night at Poogan's Porch! We brought our year old dachshund, and the staff immediately brought out a silver water bowl for her to drink. After ordering appetizers, we noticed a few drops of water that ended up turning into a heavy downpour. The wait staff and manager immediately came to assist us and move us to the porch. We thoroughly enjoyed the food; it really was out of this world!! If you haven't been to Poogan's Porch, it's a must! (With or without your four-legged friend!)
- ConnieMore than a year agoNOT POOCH FRIENDLY
NOT DOG FRIENDLY! WAITED 30 MINUTES IN THE RAIN FOR A TABLE. RUDE WAIT STAFF. NOT 5 SERVICE BUT 5 STAR PRICES. WILL NOT GO BACK!!!
- DharmaMore than a year agoFour and 1/2 bones :)
What a nice restaurant!! It's actually named after a dog and there's a little memorial to him next to the patio. My half-star reduction is only because it was very crowded & our table was right next to the front door, leaving Kismet precious little space to lay near us... she was squished under the table on top of the table legs. (that, and my salmon was a smidge undercooked, but I'm not a big salmon fan anyway- Kizzy LOVED it & I loved the glaze & sides) But ceiling fans kept the air moving comfortably on a hot night & the 3 of us appreciated the gorgeous atmosphere.
The smoked gouda mac & cheese was too good to share with the dog and the bread pudding dessert was to DIE FOR. I'd go back just for dessert!
They brought water for the dog (I carry a bowl but they'll give you one if you need it) and I think on less-busy nights or when they have enough staff to open the back porch it would be perfect.
EXTREMELY popular place- make reservations for sure & let them know what size your dog is. LOVED IT!! - KevinMore than a year agoGreat patio, great food
We enjoyed great brunch with our JRT on the front patio. Delicious food. Thanks!
