Good location, sub-par room for humans
Carmel Wayfarer InnOur dog was plenty comfortable in the room with a door with direct access to the sidewalk. Location was close to shops and restaurants. No grass nearby but plenty of trees and small patches of dirt and mulch. I've stayed in Carmel maybe 20 times and know an August visit will be expensive, but we paid way too much for a noisy, thin-walled suite with active daytime room renovation right above us. The stairs and walkways are wood transmitting footsteps easily. The windows did not all open properly, not an issue when we went, but would be essential on the occasional warm day. Twice in 5 days the closest parking space was 1-2 blocks away. We might look more seriously at the Airbnb options next time.
Great upscale hotel in downtown Berkeley
Hotel Shattuck PlazaOur smallish 2nd floor floor room was elegant and comfortable.
