Extremely dog friendly
BookIt NookFriendly staff welcoming to dogs, with a walk-up and drive thru coffee shop attached. Great parking outside and areas outside good for a pit stop for your pup. Also located near a pet store.
Beware of Foxtail here
Chetzemoka Dog ParkAlthough small, this park rarely has any other dogs in it so is near-perfect for solo-ball retrieving. The wall of shrubs overlooking the water may have a drop-off on the other side, so be careful. BUT- this dog park section of the larger park which is a little bit hard to find but should be delightful- EXCEPT- insanely, the dog park area was covered (Sept. 22) by the foxtail plant, with the full spiked heads on thousands of the plants. Its a tan colored grass-like weed covered with spikes! Worst possible plant to cover this area for dogs. The barbed seed heads of the foxtail plant can work their way into any part of your dog, from the nose to between the toes and inside the ears, eyes, and mouth. Especially in-between toes. The spikes can dig themselves directly into a patch of skin. The danger of foxtails goes beyond simple irritation. Because these tough seeds don't break down inside the body, an embedded foxtail can lead to serious infection for your dog. It can even lead to death if left untreated. The seeds can be hard to find in your dog's fur.
Why is the dog-owner community (and mostly I run into locals there) allowing this, and how is the Parks Dept. so unaware? Don't write it off, as maybe they'll fix this, or it will be mowed when you visit. Then the spikes are removed temporarily.
