No-Frills and Pup Friendly

Motel 6 Richfield OH

This location has a convenient grassy area with poo bags and a waste can. Easy place to do an overnight when traveling with pups. Not the cleanest or best maintained, and no frills, but perfectly acceptable for a night or two. Nice to have a low-cost option when traveling.

Excellent Low-cost Dog-Friendly Hotel Near the Airport

ibis Budget Roissy CDG Paris Nord 2

Excellent low-cost, dog-friendly hotel near the airport. Inexpensive breakfast option as well. Convenient location and friendly staff.

Great Ibis!

Ibis Szczecin Centrum

The hotel itself was great, the usual hip Ibis vibe, a hearty breakfast buffet, all the basics with no frills. But outside the hotel, there were few options for walking the pups. At the time we visited, the grassy park behind the hotel was closed off.

Terrible management

Hotel Café Restaurant Abina

We booked a room at Hotel Abina through BringFido, three weeks prior to our reservation dates, exclusively because they were listed as pet-friendly. They are not. They are not even human-friendly.
Their listing on BringFido even claimed that there were pet-sitting services available via the hotel. Their listing on Booking.com even said they offered pet bowls. However, none of this is true.

When we checked in for a three-night stay, the staff had our reservation through BringFido in front of them but said nothing about our dogs at that time. Our room was exceedingly small. The pillows had no cases but were instead wrapped in bedspreads. The carpets were stained, the communal shower had bugs, the sink was cracked, the window mantel was loose, and the piles of lint under the bed looked as if no one had cleaned under it in years.

The hallway to the bathroom (with a broken lock, broken toilet seat, and perpetually out of paper) that was absurdly meant to be shared by ten guest rooms AND the restaurant/bar downstairs was accessed only by a barely-lit corridor with an uneven floor.

Both those first two nights, we were kept awake by men partying loudly in the room next door and out on the rooftop adjacent to our room. But the worst was when we came back to our room and found that the window, which we had left locked, was wide open, exposing our valuables to anyone who wanted to climb the ladder from the alley and step in from the roof.

Our two laptops, the means of our livelihood and containing my students’ personal information, had been left unsecured by the hotel staff, who had clearly entered our room to open the window but had not bothered to actually clean or service the room. To add insult to injury, the next morning, a member of the staff rudely confronted my husband in public and angrily shouted three times in a row that dogs were not allowed in the hotel.

When I showed the manager our booking through BringFido, she said she had never heard of that company, and insisted that I had booked through Expedia. A moment later, she insisted that when she received the email from BringFido stating we were traveling with dogs and requesting confirmation of a dog-friendly room, she had replied (to the people she just said she’d never heard of!) that they did not allow dogs.

And yet, the hotel had somehow accepted the booking and somehow checked us in without the slightest mention to us of any problem. Confronted with the facts, this rude, unprofessional manager had no choice but to confirm that the situation was not our fault, but she never apologized for yelling at my husband in public.

This dump of a hotel, with its rude, dishonest manager, and staff that has no regard for the safety of customers' valuables, is not only unwelcoming of dogs, it is unfit for humans. There are so many better options in Amsterdam, it’s no wonder this dank, decrepit hole seemed to be mostly empty and frequented mainly by noisy drunks. Hotel Abina is a disgrace.

Excellent Experience

Ibis London Elstree Borehamwood

Every aspect of our stay was superb, especially the breakfast buffet and 24-hour kitchen. We had a kettle for coffee in our room, and the staff was sure to ask us each day if we needed anything or if we wanted our room serviced. Our dogs were very relaxed and comfortable in the room and moving through the lobby. The grassy area at the back of the hotel lot was not huge but it was large enough for the pups to do their "thing" and get a little exercise several times a day. I wish we could have stayed longer. I love this hotel!

We Got Locked Out

Boars Head Hotel

We returned to our hotel in the afternoon about 40 minutes before I had to be on my computer (which was locked in our room upstairs) for a meeting. We found the entire building locked, dark, and abandoned. After frantically trying to get in, we were helped out by staff from the hotel next door, who offered us cold drinks and a place to sit while they tried to contact the hotel owner. The Kinderton Hotel staff did FOR FREE, just out of kindness, all of the things that the hotel we had PAID to stay in should have done.

It turned out that the one person on duty at the Boar's Head property had locked up and gone home, and rather than simply notify us (we were the ONLY guests staying in the hotel at the time and they had our contact information) the hotel owner just decided to "hope" we wouldn't come back and need access to our room and possessions before the evening staff arrived.

Also, the room was so obscenely hot that we became ill from the heat and stuffiness. We asked the staff if they could do anything to relieve our discomfort (let us borrow a fan at least?) but they were completely uninterested in helping us. This was a horrible hotel experience, one of the worst we've ever had. It was abundantly clear that the Boar's Head does not care about its guests. It has the feel of a hotel that is soon to be going out of business and closing its doors forever.
