Best Hotel and Restaurant Ever

Surety Hotel

A wonderful experience! We arrived exhausted from packing out our home in Colorado and couldn’t have picked a better place for our second night of the trip. Wonderfully comfortable room, excellent amenities and friendly, but very professional staff. Dinner in the restaurant was heavenly. Breakfast also a treat. Great with my dog who is not terribly good with strangers. A truly relaxing and rejuvenating stay much needed by weary travelers. If you find yourself in Des Moines, do not miss the Surety!

Clean and comfortable

La Quinta by Wyndham North Platte

Have found that La Quinta properties vary somewhat, but this is a nice one.

Not very accessible

Sleep Inn & Suites Lincoln University Area

I am writing this review from the perspective of an adult with a physical disability that limits mobility and causes intense pain. Traveling across the country for the second time in a week to complete an out of state move, I had originally made reservations for 2 adults and 3 dogs. Unfortunately, the person who assists me had to cancel and so I am making this leg of the trip on my own. Knowing what that can mean, I called ahead to the hotel to ask for an accessible room and was told that my room was accessible so I checked in without a second thought.

The first thing to be aware of is that the front of the property is sloped including the loading area. I made quite a spectacle of myself trying to keep the cart and my rollator walker from rolling away as I tried to unload. I was so miserable, I started to cry and I was already perspiring from the hard work and the pain. Multiple people tried to help, but even at 11pm, the check-in area was complete chaos. I went to the desk for help five separate times, but never saw the woman who checked me in again. After three trips back and forth, I parked my car in an accessible space and, you guessed it, walked back up a fairly long and steep slope.

Between the pain this caused and my worries about doing it all in reverse in the morning, I slept about 2 hours after driving for 11. In the morning, I could barely move. It took me twice the usual time to get ready because of the excruciating pain and because the room was not accessible. There was a hold bar in the shower. That was it. I had already “run” downstairs for my shower chair. I explained to the person at the front desk I would need more time and she offered me an extra half hour. I explained I wouldn’t be able to comply and apologized.

Then housekeeping started knocking every 5 minutes. By the time I was dressed (I could barely open the extremely heavy door) and had taken my dogs and a few things downstairs that I had stacked on my walker, I fell apart. I called the front desk to ask for help. This woman kindly ran upstairs and brought down my suitcase. By this time, I was crying again out of frustration and pain. Be aware that this facility maybe completely inaccessible to you, depending on your level of need. The least one should expect from a hotel is that you depart feeling refreshed. I left feeling exhausted, emotionally drained and angry.

Clean and convenient

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Joliet South

Staff worked with me to assure I’d have the best room location possible given my physical needs. On arrival the desk person asked if I needed help carrying things in and provided cold water. Room had a nice little kitchen, a great work area and plenty of storage for those staying for longer periods. Innovative furniture choices make this little suite highly practical. The physical environment was a bit old and dinged up a bit, but very clean and a very comfortable bed. A lot of construction in the area leading up to hotel. I arrived at night and it was a bit confusing. Convenient parking.

Quiet and Good Access to Services

Candlewood Suites Omaha - Millard Area an IHG Hotel

While this facility is typically used for extended stays, we were just passing through. It was an ok place with comfortable beds, good water pressure in the shower, well provisioned with towels, toiletries and kitchen items. The room was clean and had a combination desk and dining table as well as a recliner which was a very nice touch. Our dogs did well there. The area includes a Target plus many other stores and restaurants.

Minus 5 bones

La Quinta by Wyndham Rochester Mayo Clinic Area South

At check-in, never asked to see ID or credit card. No instructions for caring for dogs’ needs. No hello, no welcome, no eye contact, no thank you. Now the room. On arrival, I wanted to wash my hands. The water was so incredibly hot that it scalded my hand. I have never seen such hot water in a hotel before. Utterly unsafe and violates standards for safe water temps in public facility. This room was booked as a family accessibility suite. The beds were so high, someone like myself - 5’3” and physically disabled - is going to have a very rough time getting in and out.

We booked this room for 3 adults and asked for extra pillows. The room had no extra pillows and only 2 bath towels. Had to go down to the desk and request both. Received ONE extra towel (not even an extra towel to wrap my hair after shower or for someone to take an extra shower on second day with a fresh towel). Hotel ran out of pillows. I’m guessing hotel wasn’t even at 50% capacity. They were actually out of pillow CASES because no one had done the multiple carts of bedding laundry we saw downstairs. The towels were thin and dingy. The furniture stained and sticky filthy, so much so that we put our own blankets across the sofa because it was TOO DIRTY FOR OUR DOGS TO LIE DOWN ON MUCH LESS FOR US TO SIT ON.

The drawers in the bureau would not remain closed and so we repeatedly ran into them. The blackout curtains torn from the rod. The bathtub in serious need of recaulking and stain removal. The shower surround tiles were unsealed meaning no acceptable way to sanitize the surface. Very little sound proofing between floors. The person above us sounded like they were stomping around half the night. Seriously do not understand how anyone could make that much noise on a carpeted floor.

But, worst part was listening to neighboring bathroom sounds - even sound of toilet paper dispensing. Water pipes must have run right pass the head of our bed because you hear water running and dripping all night through the thin walls. No information in the room about the hotel or the neighborhood. Seriously smelly and dirty lobby area bathrooms. Overall, very negative experience. Will definitely NOT book this hotel on our way home. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Comfortable

La Quinta by Wyndham Rapid City

Very comfortable room in great condition. We haven’t stayed at a La Quinta in years and were pleasantly surprised by quality of this hotel. We were very far from an exit for walking the dogs which made it difficult. One of reasons I’ve always used Marriott properties is that they always place you near the exit for the dog walking area. Wyndham does not get the finer points of accommodating travelers with dogs.

Lovely Stay

Days Inn by Wyndham Marquette

Welcoming check-in process that didn’t make us feel like second class citizens for traveling with dogs. Pretty lobby area. Room was spacious, but smaller than regular rooms which is the opposite of what you need when dogs are included. Room in good repair and very clean. Sheets were VERY soft and beds comfortable. Nice to be able to open the window. Love that pool offers adult swim from 10 pm to 12 am. The best part of our experience is that, upon discovering my Kindle in our room, the housekeeping person immediately called the front desk to contact us before we left town and then that same person ran all the way down to the parking lot to hand me my device. SHE DESERVES A RAISE!!! She was so nice and her action saved us a world of hassle on our cross country trip. THANK YOU!! Seriously, that was incredibly kind and helpful.

Cannot Recommend

AmericInn by Wyndham Iron Mountain

This was the most miserable stay in my 4,000 mile trip. Dog friendly rooms have no carpet. The heat was off when we arrived in the evening during a period of snow, wind and cold. The bathroom was completely unheated. The front desk staff was as stiff and unwelcoming as they come. We were told to bring our dogs in a door at the end of the building, never the front door. The hotel sits up on an embankment. There is no grass or even a flat area to walk dogs. We had to cross a busy highway to use the grass at Walmart. The beds were awful. We broke a glass bottle on the bathroom floor right after arrival and when we went to clean up any glass debris from the floor, the clothe was black and covered in hair! This is NOT a pet friendly hotel. This is not even a human friendly hotel. I have traveled with my dog all over this country and this is the absolute worst stay I’ve ever experienced.

Attractive Room

Hampton Inn Fairmont

Staff made no mention of our dogs. Room was pretty but on closer inspection furniture was threadbare. The very worst part was the beds; soft, low and such poor support I woke up after an hour with my back killing me. Miserable night. Then despite our do not disturb sign, housekeeper walked right in our room setting off our dogs. Breakfast was a joke: frozen omelette type things and waffle batter that won’t come out of pan.
