So glad we chose to come here!

Grape Vine Cafe

As for the experience, it was perfect! The food was decent and fairly priced- nothing to knock your socks off, but just so nice that we were enthusiastically encouraged to bring our pup when we called ahead. The service from the time we were seated to the time we left was thoughtful, kind and attentive. They don’t have a dog menu, but we ordered a grilled, unseasoned chicken breast and they were happy to cook and cut this up for Jagger… and even wrapped up his leftovers since it was a generous serving for a 17-pound dog! I’d certainly go back.

Meh…

Jasper Hotel

They put all the dogs on the highest level (or at least it seemed that way), so taking your pup out is a process. The City Hall grounds aren’t too far away, but you have to walk all that way just to get to grass. We also took advantage of their upgrade offer to have specialty baked goods for our dog in the room we arrived, but they didn’t have them in the room, so we had to call down to get them. The bow tie they came with was super cute, but it is only for very large dogs, so I wouldn’t say that was worth adding in our case. If you plan to bring food that needs refrigerating for you or your dog, almost all of the room in the fridge is taken up with their mini bar drinks.

The dog beds they have available (similar to a cot with a metal frame) are a nice touch, but it’s so big, and the room is not large, so it didn’t work well for us. You can sit in the lounge or on the patio with your dog and still get drinks or food served, but service wasn’t great. We always had to go find someone even though it’s not a big hotel or very busy. It was okay, but certainly not great. We didn’t feel this was worth staying at even if you don’t have your dog with you. Very pretty and modern, but not many good features for traveling.

This isn’t it!

Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Pierre SD

Other hotels that were pet friendly were booked up when we rolled into town. Overall, though, I would not recommend staying in Pierre at all. This hotel may be “pet friendly” but it had no nearby grass, and instead, had broken glass, cigarettes and loads of large, dead bugs around the hotel (even right at the entrance). The carpet in the halls and stairs is from 1975 and has never been cleaned. It’s hard floor in the bedroom, and you won’t want to have your glasses on when you look through the room. We found dead moths and trash from the previous guests. Breakfast will give you diarrhea, TVs are small, and walls are thin. Near impossible to find pet-friendly restaurants, but at least you can rest assured you’re less than 50 feet from the exotic South Dakota train tracks.
