Looked much nicer in the pictures!

Red Roof Inn & Suites Wilson

We stayed here one night on our drive down to Florida figuring it couldn't be that bad. Upon arrival, I went to the lobby to check in. The lobby was beautifully decorated for the holiday, which made me think the rooms would be given the same care. As I waited there, the smoke detector kept beeping because it needed new batteries. I commented to the desk clerk about how annoying that must be to hear all night, and he said it helps keep him awake. Okay, but still annoying for the guests!

We were initially given a room on the 2nd floor, but I didn't want to have to walk my 15 year old dog up and down steps all night, so the desk clerk found me a room on the first floor that was close to the grassy area where she could relieve herself. Great! Then we walked into the room. To say it needed refurbishing would be a huge understatement.

The bed had a metal encasement around the bottom that was rusted and scratched up. I've never seen anything like it, and have no idea why that would be used around a bed. We accidentally kicked it every time we came near the bed. We were afraid to turn on the air conditioner because it too was rusty to the point that it had holes in the grate that the air blows from, and we were leery that something unwanted might blow into the room! The air vent in the room was in dire need of a cleaning to remove the clumped up dirt and dust. And the walls were not in much better shape.

The shower actually looked very clean and usable. However, we were only given two bath towels and two wash cloths. There was no hand towels and no bath mat, so we went back to the lobby to ask for extra towels and were told we only get two because there was only two of us on the room. Huh?! He ended up giving us one extra towel that we used as a bath mat. Okay, so we just wanted to take a hot shower and go to bed. We'd make do with the limited bath supplies. Not a big deal until I turned on the shower and the knob came off in my hand! At this point, it was just comical!

The only good things I can say about our stay at this Red Roof Inn is that the bed was kind of comfortable, it was located right off the highway, which made it easy to get back on to continue our journey, and the staff was very nice.
