Interesting easy shaded walk (leashed)
Willand Pond ParkSuper cool find. Fairly short, fairly easy walk with a lot of shade / woods. The place used to be an old amusement park / zoo / roadside attraction. A few foundations (bear cage?) are left behind (on the Sommersworth side) and cute to check out (photo op). Also saw some deer.
History: "Willand Pond was the site of a popular recreation area with dance halls and early electric lights accessible by trolley car. Today it is a quiet tree-lined pond squeezed between two highly traveled state routes. The [66-acre] pond is stocked with trout and is surrounded by a trail that follows the northern shoreline jointly developed by both Dover and Somersworth and open to small boats without motors. The pond, in the Piscataqua watershed, was called Humphrey’s Pond in the late 18th century. In the early 20th...[it] housed a Central Park at the end of what is now called Central Avenue...[It was also previously] called Burgett Park."
Terrible
North Quabbin Dog ParkSandy/dusty/dirty, no benches, no water, no human restrooms. Dog bowls full of green algae. Dog play items in the small section were a bit lopsided, some had mold, etc. Pluses: canopy for shade (no seats) and separate fenced areas for different sizes. Won't be back.
Closed on a holiday
The Velvet MillGot to walk around. Small local shops. Nothing particularly stood out. Not much for food options either. Indoor. Human restrooms. Small park adjacent.
Not the best
Burlingame State Park CampgroundSites are close together and beach is the size of a postage stamp. No enforcement of noise and no dog park on site.
Cute
Assekonk Borderlands TrailTook the trail over the brook. It was shaded. Short trail that dumps you at a nearby park / rec area. Didn't take the longer trail around the school, but maybe next time.
Hidden Fabulous Find
Dog Park at Pennsylvania Welcome CenterStopped to let the dog stretch and relieve himself. Was meandering the sidewalk and to my surprise there is a fenced grassy dog park hidden behind a row of hedges. Single fenced area for all dog sizes. The entrance gate is a bit hard to find. Look across from the building and you will see a shed. To the right of the shed is a crosswalk to the entrance of the dog park. Nice green grass. Freshly mowed. Clean. Keep it clean. Also, there are picnic tables with covered awnings nearby. Human building has vending, restrooms, payphone, map, air pump for your tires (for a fee), etc. and a roof top garden!
Single area for all dogs
The Mile Dog ParkSingle area for dogs of all sizes, which is a huge disappointment. It's kind of small on top of that. Turf. Not a lot of shade. Some benches. Water. Public (yes, public to any and everyone). Free parking. Safe area. Nothing interesting or unique. No human restroom.
Problems with staff
Ashland / Huntington West KOACheck-in seemed sad, I didn't feel welcome. Then the manager appeared to be 'messing' with me twice (i.e., giving me a hard time for fun). To top it off, as she was driving away I overheard her say, "That was fun." Her conduct was unprofessional, childish, and pretty nasty. Wouldn't stay here again regardless of whether or not the property is nice. As for the property, I didn't see much of it. Just in and out. I will also note the other guest - an adult white male - essentially catcalled me. Seemed a bit much.
Flies
San Clemente Dog ParkTwo dog parks (across the road from each other). Grass and dirt. Water. Bench. Limited shade. Lots of flies. Nothing notable. Maybe try in winter and hopefully flies will be gone.
