Easy Walk
Contra Loma Regional ParkMany walks in this area include a lot of hills, but the trail around the reservoir at Contra Loma is one of the easiest in the area. View of the reservoir and hills are beautiful. The trail is narrow and there are often other hikers, so not great for reactive dogs, but if your dog is hiker and dog friendly, this is a great place to walk!
Beautiful Views!
Black Diamond Mines Regional PreserveWe lived just down the road from this beautiful park and it's a great place to hike with dogs! It can be crowded on the weekends but trails are wide and there usually aren't an overwhelming number of dogs. Most trails have a pretty steep incline, so make sure you & your dog are able to hike uphill. Our only complaint? Like most California parks, there aren't may garbage cans or pet waste stations. A few more of those at strategic spots and this would be perfect!
Great Getaway!
Starved Rock Lodge & Conference CenterIf you want to spend some time with your dog at Starved Rock State Park, think about staying at Starved Rock Lodge. Dog friendly accommodations are limited; only some of the cabins allow dogs. Cabins are cute & clean with a microwave and mini-fridge in each. The dog-friendly models are basically a detached hotel room, not a multi-room cabin. Dogs are not allowed in the lodge, but if you don't want to leave your dog alone while you eat, you can order from their restaurant to-go and take your dinner back to your cabin. We had a great time and our dog loved the hiking!
