Run down and noisy

Holiday Inn Resort Jekyll Island an IHG Hotel

I have stayed here numerous times over the years and had always been pleased with my stay. In March, I had two back-to-back stays. One for 3 nights then another for 2 nights. The visits were separated by 3 days. The first stay was not too bad except that the bath tub was so rusted with the caulk missing and discolored that I decided to get my showers at the in town gym. I would not have felt clean using that shower. The room looked like it had seen better days with the paint stained in several places, the furniture has been well used with the finish scarred and chipped.

The worst problem was this horrendous noise that was extremely loud coming from between the walls. It sounded like a metallic grinding that went on for a good 20 minutes before it subsided. I was on the phone when it started and it was so loud that I literally had to leave the room to continue my conversation. That noise happened two times in that room.

When I came back the second time, I was given the room next to the one I had been in previously. I had asked for a different room because of that really loud noise that was quite disturbing. They were very accommodating and moved me to the other side of the hotel, and actually gave me an upgrade to one of their “superior” rooms. I had been on the road for a good seven hours, and was really looking forward to a good night's sleep after getting to bed around 1 AM.

At 7:35 AM I awake to the walls shaking, the dog barking, and that same noise from the first stay was happening in this room only it was 10x worse! The noise was so loud that it caused the shower curtain rod to vibrate and shake, along with the mirror in the bathroom. You could put your hand on the wall and feel the shaking from this noise. I’m pretty sure it had something to do with the person above me or next to me taking a shower because it came on abruptly and it stopped abruptly about 10 minutes later. Needless to say, there is no going back to bed after that!

I took video in the hopes to capture the noise and it did an OK job of that. When I went to the front desk to check out and asked for a manager, I was told that there was no manager on site and that there would be no one there until the next day. When I showed the clerk the video, she said, “No one should have to put up with that.” I said that I had complained about that noise on the other side of the hotel and the same exact noise louder is on the other side of the hotel, and I cannot be the only one complaining about this. She said, “Oh no, you’re not the first person to complain about that noise.” My question to them is if this is such a problem in so many of the rooms, why don’t you fix it?

If that wasn’t enough, there Is also the issue of the room not getting cleaned, evidenced by a dirty towel from the previous occupant hanging on the back of the bathroom door. Also, the full length mirror was so dirty that I didn’t even wanna look at it. There are several other hotels on the island that now permit dogs, and other pets that I will be using them in the future. I absolutely would never stay at this hotel again.
