Location is terrific
Holiday Inn Binghamton Downtown an IHG HotelDidn't realize Binghamton had such a historic downtown. Very nice setting right on the river. Hotel is well kept and the adjoining restaurant serves up some good food (good service too). The highlight was the front-desk staff, man they loved my dog, Maggie! Very kind and accommodating! The one slight knock would be the lack of immediate-area green space for dogs to do their thing. Hard to find a decent patch of grass, although if you head to the riverfront, there are spots... just look hard, folks!
OK but dated
Hampton Inn Harrisonburg SouthNot a bad fit for you and your pooch. The hotel is conveniently located off Interstate 81. There is ample green space surrounding the property. We were there on the weekend and the businesses that owned the land were shut. Not sure what it's like during the week? We were able to go for a couple of long walks. The front desk engagement on that Saturday afternoon was pretty humorless and unfriendly; don't know if the guy was having a bad day or he's generally like that, but a smile would help. Regardless, the actual hotel was fine. Not up to the level of other Hamptons we'd stayed in during that trip, but acceptable. The building itself is kind of dated and showing its age. Still, the hotel was filled with fellow dog-travelers and everyone seemed to get along well.
Busy area but dog friendly
Aloft Asheville DowntownIf you've never been to Asheville, it can be difficult to solo navigate your way to the hotel (having a friend on board to Google map and yell, "Turn here!" can be helpful). My dog Maggie is lousy at directions so we had to make do. But, but, but... the Aloft is a treat; funky and fun and very dog friendly. The area surrounding the hotel is welcoming as well and many of the shops/cafes/bars etc. swing their doors open to dogs. The one minor knock is (and this is not the hotel's fault) that the area can be very busy and might be intimidating for Spot or Rex or Lassie. Rooms are comfortable and fairly spacious. Enjoy.
Fabulous stay
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Roanoke SalemFor the price, won't be beat. Quiet, clean, full free breakfast, great staff. Only knock is it's not real close to a dog park (right off 81) but there is plenty of green space around the property. Best deal going.
Superb customer service
Hampton Inn Hagerstown-I-81Very nice hotel but unfortunately when Maggie (coonhound) and I were there, there was some kind of kids' basketball tourney on the go and the place was teeming with screaming kids. The staff was amazing though and did its best to calm the storm. There's not a ton of space for dogs to roam but there is an absolutely excellent dog park about 10-15 minutes away by car (you can link to it through this site). Also wanted to thank the legendary Estelle for setting up the reservation for us; she has her own pup named "Conway" (not after Tim, apparently!) and we chatted for half an hour before getting down to work (my fault!). This is an incredible site and was recommended thru a good friend in Ottawa.
Get what you pay for
Motel 6 Binghamton NYPlace was clean but dated. There's a decent dog park about 10 minutes away by car (on this site). Given the age of the place, there's loads of creaks and groans in the infrastructure which had my pup jumpy all night. Not the friendliest check-in either.
