Our prepaid room was filthy

We had an extremely 'unpleasant surprise' when we arrived at the La Quinta in Florence, SC last night. After driving from Philadelphia for 12 hours I walked into the hotel and went to the front desk where the night manager warned me that our room - the only unoccupied room left in the hotel - 'might not be clean.' He offered to give us a set of sheets so we could make up our own room - just what we were looking forward to at 11 PM after an exhausting all day drive. I declined after which he offered to let me let me inspect the room which I did only to find it filthy with unchanged sheets, dirty bathroom, etc. Needless to say we had no choice but to leave, and after calling 20 other hotels in the Florence area we ended up having to drive 2 hours to Columbia, SC where we finally were able to find a room - a much more expensive one - at 1 AM
