No frills experience

The best thing I can say about this place is that there was no pet fee, which has become the norm everywhere else these days. But there was not much else outstanding about this place. It's basically everything you'd come to expect from a Motel 6, except the price. It was very expensive!

Nice dog-friendly hotel

I stayed here one night in February with my 2 labs. The hotel was very nice, clean rooms, and very accommodating. They offer a hot breakfast. Unfortunately, they put me on the 3rd floor and I had to haul a lot of stuff up the elevator. There's a narrow grassy strip for you to relieve your dogs with waste stations. I would stay here again, but request a first floor room.

Great for dogs

This is one of the nicest Best Westerns I’ve stayed at with my dog. They were very accommodating. They gave us a room with hard floors. The room was clean, shower was nice, bed was comfortable, and there was a nice hot breakfast in the morning. There is a huge grassy area with trees and a dog waste station. That’s always a nice plus! It was close to the 80 freeway, but the freeway noise was not bad. There are a lot of good choices for restaurants in the area. I would definitely stay here again! The pet fee is a little high, but that’s becoming the norm. It is no longer a make or break for us.

Quiet location that is dog-tolerant

The toilet was clogged, the room was not cleaned upon check-in and I slipped in the tub. For dogs, it was just ok at best. No dog pottying on the property and the dogs are not very welcome here.

Dog-specific- I have VERY well-behaved labs. They are quiet. They sleep in their crates. No damage or accidents in the room. We compete in obedience trials throughtout the state. However, as is becoming more common, hotels who claim are "pet-friendly", are really just "pet-tolerant". This is a "pet-tolerant" establishment. Dogs are not allowed on the beds (no problem for me), my dogs aren't allowed on our beds at home, but others want their dogs with them in the bed. Just thought you should know. The hotel is small and there's really no where to potty your dog on the grounds. But Pacific Grove is lovely and there are lots of places to walk your dog. Unfortunately, the adjacent street to the hotel (Monarch Lane) is ok, but it's clear NO ONE picks up after their dogs there. Ever. Bring your own supplies for cleaning up after your dogs. There are garbage cans a short walk from your room. If you are looking for grass, gravel, etc, you will not find it here. I know some dogs are extremely particular where they "go". My boy will go in the middle of the street. For that I am grateful. I go to dog shows and having a dog "go" anywhere when traveling is a bit of a blessing. Finally, just an FYI this place charges a lot for dogs and it's based on the dog's weight.

The room- it was not cleaned at 3:00 (check in time). The cleaning lady, I watched her on her way over to the room at 3:05, said it would take her 35 minutes to clean the room. Ok, not her fault. I blame the management. It was their responsibility to hire enough help and plan accordingly for a Friday on a busy July weekend. They did not. All they could tell me was that they were sorry and were very busy. Too bad. That's their job. Also the toilet was clogged. Ugh. On day 1 of my 2 day stay, the drainage was slow but "manageable". So I didn't complain. There was a plunger. I was up before the sun and was gone all day. By the final day, the toilet was anything but manageable. I prayed I could make it through the night without going. The shower was slippery. I mean really slippery. I stepped in for a shower, had the water running, and before picking up the soap I slipped and fell, bruising my elbow and hurting my back in the process. I have never slipped in a tub ever. So either the cleaning lady left a product in the tub or... I shudder to think what was left behind.

Summary- The room had hard floors good for dogs, the bed was comfortable enough, a fridge and microwave were important to me while traveling alone with my dog, and the location was VERY QUIET. Other than that, I am totally dissatisfied and will not return.

Nice grass courtyard and patio

I stayed here with my 2 labs for 4 days in October for a dog show at the Sonoma fairgrounds. The pet policy is very good. Although the Inn is near the freeway, it was very quiet here. I had no trouble sleeping. There were plenty of dog relief areas around the property along with pet waste bags.

The room was clean, and the shower was good. The fridge and microwave were a must! As a nice bonus, we were on the ground floor with a sliding glass door out to a lovely grass courtyard. A table and chairs were just outside our room on the patio. Breakfast was delicious! There were lots of great choices, both hot and cold options every day.

My biggest issue was that it was supposedly a non-smoking room (which I prefer), but the room clearly smelled of smoke. It was strongest when the A/C was running (which was often because it was in the 90s the first couple of days). I didn't request another room because I was very happy with everything else about the room. Also, we were located on a busy street, so I only walked the dogs on the property.

All in all, I would stay here again.

Great place for dogs

I have mixed feelings about this place. I stayed here during a 5-day dog show. It was great having a kitchen with a full sized fridge and microwave. There were garbage cans for throwing out pet waste and plenty of spots to potty your dog- grass, rocks, bark, etc. some dogs are very particular! There were pet waste bag receptacles, which apparently held plastic bags at one time- but all were empty. Bring your own. There were nice paved paths for walking the dogs. The room was clean, but I highly recommend bringing everything you might need, including a coffee maker. One was not automatically supplied nor were kitchen utensils or hangers, although you might be able to request them.

The place was quiet and comfortable and my dog and I had no trouble sleeping at night. The downside- while this was by far NOT the worst place to stay in Fresno (I’ve stayed in worse), there were signs posted about not leaving anything of value in your car. But Fresno has issues everywhere it seems. I never felt unsafe, however! Five star reviews are reserved for places that not just accept dogs but roll out the red carpet for them. I give this place 4 bones. Also the water in this city smells very strongly of chlorine. I would also advise bringing water for your dogs. If I attend the Fresno dog shows again, I would definitely consider staying here again.

Just ok

There were plenty of areas to “potty” your dog, but no garbage cans outside. The room was just ok at best. No tv remote. Stank of smoke. Dryer was loosely hanging off the wall. Homeless encampments on the freeway. I won’t stay here ever again. You get what you pay for.
