Alfie's favorite vacation!

The Paw House Inn & Cottages

Alfie LOVED this place! From the gift-wrapped dog treats on the pillow of his own cushioned wood-framed dog bed, to the lush lawn & huge park, this place is heaven for dogs. Alfie wasn't interested in the agility stations, but he loved dashing around the place, and we've never seen him so excited about a dog park! For people, the cozy inn -- with its huge collection of dog-themed books -- makes a delightful getaway.

The staff is terrific: Stephanie (manager) went well out of her way for us when we arrived late, Mitch (host/owner) welcomed guests & dogs at breakfast, and Allison was a friendly hand. They truly love dogs: They will happily admire your dog, tell their own dog stories, & show dog photos all morning (especially Mitch). All personalities of dogs are welcome: If a dog needs extra personal space, he or she gets a yellow ribbon, a wide berth and plenty of respect.

Breakfast was good, and the coffee was excellent. My vegan daughter got very good oatmeal and a fresh fruit salad, which was all she wanted. We had made-to-order omelets with eggs from local farmers, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and local cheddar cheese. With the fresh muffins, it was a fine breakfast. The truth is, we weren't there for the food: We were there for the joyful time, on a flowery patio filled with more dogs than people, all lounging happily in the gorgeous green hills of Vermont.

Finally, each family gets a kennel to furnish with their own dog bed & toys, in case they wish to use it, in ‘Mario’s Playhouse’. During the day, staff members walk & play with those dogs. Some of the time, those dogs will be alone in their kennels. This is very reasonable temporary space for contented, well-adjusted dogs who are getting attention from their families the rest of the time. (Dogs are den animals: they’re happy to curl up in an enclosure for hours at a time, as long as they're getting enough exercise and attention at other times.) Paw House Inn assumes that you'll be walking, playing and celebrating Vermont with your dog most of the time, which is why you wanted an inn that's all about dogs in the first place!
