I would not recommend this park anymore.

Freeway Park

I'm not even sure if this park is still open as a dog park, owners were trying to turn it into an outdoor venue for weddings/etc. The dog park is an afterthought and not much of one to be honest. A pass and updated shot record are required to use this park.

In my time there owners stopped caring much about the dog park besides emptying the trash cans. The sprinklers in the pond that are supposed to circulate water were broken or turned off for over a month before I left, snakes were found in the area including in the electrical box that controls the sprinklers. Owners were notified and did nothing. Lots of issues with yellow jackets/bees, and other bugs. Materials and such related to the owners other businesses/hobbies were left out where animals could get into them and possibly injure themselves. Owners have a giant pool for teaching dock diving for dogs but that isn't part of the park either, and is very expensive to use. When I left they were clearing trees on another part of the property to move the dog park area away from the lake and nice established area where it was to another corner of the property way out back.

Owners in general and staff I interacted with were rude for no reason and generally unfriendly. Owner's dogs were over-excited and terrorized some of the meeker dogs who came into the park.

Entrance to this park location is a horribly small windy path through trees that larger vehicles will struggle to get through.

Owners also operate a boarding/daycare/training last I was there but I can't speak to how good it was bc I didn't use it.

I visited this park for several months bc of the pond having circulating water so there was not standing algae/funk, and bc the other park goers were in general nice people with well behaved dogs. It's just a shame it isn't run by people who care about it.

A regular walk spot

Myrtle Beach State Park

We have an sc park pass bc there are multiple parks within 30 minutes of MB. We regularly go here on Mondays when bark park south is closed until 11 for maintenance. In the summers dogs are allowed on the beach before 10, and early in the day is is usually empty or very sparsely populated. There is a nice wooden boardwalk for those who want to see the ocean but not go onto the sand, with 4-5 outdoor showers/taps for washing off sand and filling up a dog bowl (bring your own) and there are benches at these locations. There are also multiple picnic shelters. The shop that goes to the pier has ice cream and nice gifts, as well as fishing equipment for the pier, but dogs are not allowed on the pier or in the shop except in service capacity.

There are a nice variety of trails, plenty of open fields, lots of shaded wooded areas and the shelters in the woods do have water taps and fountains as well. There is a wilderness learning center for kids and trails with marked info about different plants and species. Ample parking and wonderful campgrounds. Staff is all very helpful and polite ime.

Please make sure to pack bug spray, sunscreen, a water bowl for your pup and bags to ean up after them. Also bc of the swamplands native to the area and some naturally occurring standing water I definitely recommend that you have your dog vaccinated for the bacterial/waterborne parasites and upto date on heartworm medications. And absolutely bathe them after any entrance into water here in Myrtle, be it ocean, still or fresh. Our sewer systems are below par and that is not something you want lingering on your dog. That said I do still let my dog regularly swim and he has never had issues, but he is utd on Vax and preventative and is always bathed after doing so. :)

Support the state parks! Keep them beautiful.

Daily Dog Park

Barc Parc South

I made an account to review the dog parks in my area so that visitors can hear from a local who uses them regularly.

This is our daily dog park. If my dog isn’t in daycare (and sometimes those days afterwards) we are here at least once a day. He’s a lab mix so he is full energy and loves to swim.

There are three sections. Big, little, and all dogs (which is the biggest and includes the pond). The small dog area is mostly grass and has trees, but isn’t very shady. The big dog area is half sandy/pine needles and half grass, with a lot of shady trees but some open areas with sunshine too. The all dog area has a mix of trees, grass, sand, and dirt. The banks of the pond are pretty much sandy dirt, not goopy mud. (It is the beach after all. )

There are some picnic tables in all areas, and a covered picnic shelter with one table in it inside the all dog area. Every area has one dog watering station, there is no human water fountain. There is also a large portapotty outside the small dog area.

Like any dog park there might be an aggressive dog here or there, but in my experience, only once was the dog not removed or leashed immediately. A lot of the big dogs like to tumble but some don’t, and in general they just leave the non-tumblers alone. If they don’t most often their owners will tell them to leave off of the other dog and the pack will follow. My dog loves to swim, and there is almost always at least 3 dogs fetching and swimming in the pond. The pond isn’t super clean, it doesn’t circulate. It’s not scummy, trash-filled or smelly, it’s just a pond. It’s got ducks and turtles and some fish. My dog swims in it every day and we bathe him regularly about once a week and he has never had any problems.

As far as meeting people, I’m not social at all and I have had no problem meeting and striking up a conversation with locals or visitors, dog parks tend to do that. Most owners are really good about picking up after their dogs or pointing out (nicely) if yours goes and you miss it. There are multiple bag stands and trash cans in every area. There are also stations with shovels and hoes if your dog digs a hole, and it is requested you fill it in before you leave.

An important note is that this park is CLOSED ON MONDAYS BEFORE 11 FOR MAINTENANCE. If you do show up early and need to kill time, just drive a little bit over to the commons and walk (leashed!) on the paths there around the lake or through the shops. There is no swimming for dogs or people in the commons lake.

I hope this covered everything!
