A quiet place to rest
Days Inn by Wyndham West Branch Iowa City AreaThe property is a bit past its prime, but we were well received including our four legged companion. Did not test the breakfast offer as we were trying to beat an approaching storm, but it did look limited. One great thing was the Mexican restaurant attached to the hotel. We were concerned for the prices, but the portions were more than generous and delicious, highly recommended.
Nice, newer property
Microtel Inn and Suites MinotIn general this was a good place to stay. Easy accommodations four our four legged traveler. Only two concerns; one has to request housekeeping services with a door-hanger note but when we posted our note on the fourth day the staff missed it. Other caution is breakfast is totally carbs, no protein except peanut butter for your bagel or pancake. These are only reason to drop from 5 bones.
A great experience
La Quinta by Wyndham Grand ForksNewer property. Room was well positioned near an exit for nature calls. Breakfast was one of the best for hotels on this trip. We would definitely stay here again.
Needs an upgrade
Americas Best Value Inn Sauk CentreNot the cleanest of hotels. Placed in second floor room and end of hall when only entrance/exit was thru lobby. Made for long, excited walk when nature called. Would rate breakfast as poor both in quantity and quality. Not planning to return.
Quaint
The Willard Munger InnThe inn had a rustic look/feel to it. Was busy as this was the first weekend of summer. Accepted our dog well.
Down in the dump
Super 8 by Wyndham Madison EastFirst view of the property suggested this hotel had been abandoned, with tall weeds growing all over any open space. That first impression was enhanced when we climbed the outside stairs to third floor entrance (and fire exit) for the assigned room, there were bags of garbage on that landing, and plenty of garbage that escaped the bags, and not just minutes or hours before. Room was better than those impressions, but nothing to write home about. Really disturbed when trying to return to vehicle for dog bed we found out the fire exit could not be opened from the inside unless someone else had propped open the door with some of the garbage from the landing; yes the door unlocked from outside with the room key, but only a non functioning latch from inside. Fortunately there was no emergency that night. My next email is to Super 8/Wyndham informing them that this place is best served by a wrecking ball if they value the brands’ names.
