Not worth the headache

Sonesta Select Birmingham Colonnade

My husband called to make our reservation, stating multiple times we have 2 big dogs. Reiterated it at check-in. Then the manager came out, accusing of us trying to sneak them in (the front door). She was endlessly rude, threatening to kick us out if we were "a problem." To be clear, our dogs were peeing outside of the narrow strip of grass that serves as the dog area. No barking, no rough-housing. We were on the top floor, right behind the elevator. To say we passed a restless night, just waiting for this manager to pick a fight.

Great food, great with dogs!

Calhoun's Maryville

Our girl was greeted and a water bowl fetched for her before or serve even four to us!

Save yourself a walk and park to the far left side of the building. The outdoor entrance to the patio is over there, though it's hard to spot at first.

We got spinach dip (good) and ale steaks with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese and it was all amazing. We also tried thew half rack of ribs and got the girl a chicken breast. It was timely Ann's delicious! We're looking forward to our leftovers! We also tried two of their house beers, the red and brown ales. They were first class.

All of this topped with amazing service. Well worth the pricey meal!

Amazing place!

Shuford's Smokehouse

This is a hole-in-the-wall, order at the window, barbeque joint. The food was amazing and the ladies working inside are major dog lovers. Even knowing we were getting her a hotdog, they gave our girl two pieces of bacon for being so pretty.

The only sitting area is three picnic tables on garden gravel (no indoor seating), but they were comfortable for all three of us.

We were late for lunch and early for dinner, so we didn't have to wait long. But either call in ahead or be ready to wait if you go during busier times. The wait is worth it!

No longer Carlile's!

Carlile's Restaurant

This is not longer Carlile's, but a place called Royal Rose Diner and the patio has a padlock on the gate.

Must go in Hattiesburg!

Keg & Barrel

I'm a Hattiesburg native who now lives out of state and Keg and Barrel is now on our must go list when we visit. Their local brew list is impressive, the food is good, and they love dogs. They brought our girl a bowl of water and she loved her grilled chicken breast for dinner. And every server took time to love on our girl every chance they got.

There is a cat that lives under the deck, but we didn't see it until just before we left. They are very popular, particularly at night, so if your pup gets anxious around loud crowds, go early and pick a spot on the back patio. It's definitely worth putting in the little bit of extra effort to try this place out.

Great outdoor area with picnic table seating

Ed's Burger Joint

Most of the seating is outside, so it's great and ready for your group and your pup. There's The lower level that's at least partly covered and a smaller second floor that is covered. The food is insanely good, and we didn't even get one of their yummy looking desserts. And they are ready for your furry friend with waterbowls scattered around (but not individual bowls).

There are a couple of downsides. It's an awkward place to get in and out right on the main drag. If your dog struggles with kids running around, this might not be a good stop because there are tons of games - two pingpong tables, a giant jenga game, bags games, shuffle board, and that's just the ones I'm sure of. We went around noon on a Friday and it was as packed as you'd expect. And be sure you have a friend that can order for you or sit with your pup while you order. While the meal is delivered to your table, it's a counter order.

All in all, we enjoyed the meal and the staff and other customers were excited to see our pittie girl. We will definitely cook we again when we visit Hattiesburg!

Great place, great food

Fat Boy's Bar-B-Que Ranch

The location is beautiful, right beside a river which our pup loved walking along. Front and side porches have picnic tables where dogs are most definitely welcome. You order inside (so probably not a great place to dine solo with your pooch). The ladies brought our girl a bowl of water and seemed really to enjoy meeting her.

Just as important, the food was great. Hickory-smoked barbeque with a nice, slightly sweet sauce. The sides are appealing. The menu is simple, but they do it all well. Try the Fat Boy Favorite to get a sample of all the meats they offer and three sides. We shared one and took one home for later! We'll definitely be going back.

A new favorite!

Brixx Pizza

Park around back and head up the back stairs and settle in on the patio. The food was great, but it was the pup service that made this place one of our new favorites. They have dog bowls for water and food, and when we ordered the chicken for our girl, they never batted an eye. If it's cold, though, we suggest grabbing the little table under the heater!
