Nice Facility

MainStay Suites Wilmington

Overall this was a nice place to stay. It was clean and the staff was all friendly and helpful. There were only two issues overall. The pet area did not appear to be maintained. The trash can wasn't emptied during our stay and it didn't have a bag in it. There were no pet bags either. That wasn't an issue as we keep them with us wherever we go, but someone who doesn't and expects the facility to have bags would have been out of luck.

The only other issue was our room key deactivated at 0900 but check out wasn't until 1200. To their credit, when I reported it, the desk agent offered to reprogram it, but we already had a plan for one of us to stay in the room until we were leaving so I told them it wasn't needed.

Aside from those two issues, it was a nice place with a lot of free breakfast options. The room was really spacious and felt like an apartment. There was plenty of furniture for sitting, dining and relaxing. And as I stated previously, all of the staff we encountered was friendly and helpful, every single one.

Although the pet area could use some attention, it was a large area and not a far walk. Overall I would recommend this to any pet owner looking to travel with their pet. A little attention to the pet area gets this place 5 bones.

Not a 1st choice

Let me start by saying that all of the staff I & my family encountered were friendly, courteous and helpful. I have no issues with any of the staff. I do believe the staff isn't supported properly by ownership and doesn't have the resources needed to make this a great mid level place to stay. The pet walking area is never scooped or cleaned up and there aren't any available pet bags to be used. The rooms are run down and need some maintenance. There are cabinets with drawer/door faces that are loose, screwed unevenly through the face, missing pulls. There are tears/rips in the carpet, holes in the walls from door handles, missing base board from the floors, especially the bathroom, it's generally run down. The pools weren't being cleaned or strained properly, the decks weren't being washed down. It seemed as if a couple of additional maintenance personnel are needed, at least for a short term to get things up to snuff so the tasks aren't so overwhelming. There was no welcome packet/phonebook/tv channel sheet. The sheets and blankets did seem nice and clean, bleached, they were all white so it was pretty easy to tell they were cleaned. Again, I'd like to stress the staff are all great, but they need ownership to fund and back them to make the needed repairs and get the place into a manageable state, especially the pools. For the cost of the stay I expected more. I thought we were saving some money on the room. But compared to some other places for the dollar per night difference, I'd choose to spend a few more dollars next time for a nicer place.
