Nice for a "human-only" trip

The Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk

We stayed here prior to a cruise so didn't have our pups with us but I choose the hotel for its downtown location, reasonably priced overnight parking ($10), and the nightly rate, which was great for the location. I had previously read via TripAdvisor reviews that the hotel was a bit outdated but clean and pleasant, and I agree. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location was just across the street from Tampa Riverwalk and symphony hall. Our 2 Queen room was equipped with a fridge and coffee maker but since they only included dry creamer we made use of the free "coffee bar" in the hotel's restaurant. If you wanted a made-to-order breakfast, the prices in the cafe were reasonable although we planned ahead and just bought muffins from a bakery the day before.

While this is a hotel for traveling guests, from the TripAdvisor reviews they seem to specialize in group travel. While walking around the property to find a vending machine with a diet soda (so odd that NONE of them carried sugar-free drinks other than water), I noticed name tags on a couple of floors with an RA desk - it appeared that the property was also being used by students taking classes at the local university - whether temporarily, like for a high schooler spring-break class, or for the semester -- I can't say. It did not cause any issues for us and I rarely saw the students outside of the elevator. I would stay here again for a return trip but wish it were a couple of blocks closer to the final tram stop.

Inexpensive and Clean!

The Smart Stay Inn

We booked an overnight, last minute stay at this property. The rates were some of the best in town and the property was very clean. It's an older style motel that has been updated, so it's not fancy, but the owners seem to care about the place. There were lots of pets staying, and they all looked happy with their rooms! Breakfast was a simple fare, but there were a few hot selections (waffles, eggs, sausage, toasted bagels) and it was sufficient for a quick fuel-up in the morning. Please note that the noise from I-95 is very noticeable on the office-side of the property; for a quieter room I suggest requesting one in the back or poolside if you think this would bother you.

Popular pet friendly option

Sidewall Pizza

Sidewall's food is fresh and tasty. They have a pet friendly area at this location that is enclosed in the winter, making it one of the few places you can take your pet when it's really cold.
