Well, the breakfast was good....

Big Pines Mountain House

This place does a lot of stuff right. The price was low, the location was very convenient, and the room was super comfortable, especially the beds (even the roll-away!). The free breakfast really was a good breakfast, not just coffee and cheap pastries. I stayed two nights with my two teenagers and it was mostly okay, BUT:
***“Handicapped Accessible”only applies to certain rooms. I had a second floor room with no elevator. Thankfully I’m not in a wheelchair but it was a tough climb.
***The room was too small to accommodate the roll-away bed I requested for my son. There was barely room at the foot of the beds, but it would have blocked the door. It had to go in the area right outside the bathroom and closet, completely blocking access to both. Then it had to be put away every morning and set up again every night. Huge hassle.
***They would not let me change the room. My daughter, who checked in to her own room at the same time, got a larger room that was accessible (also at a better price but that’s another story). She offered to switch but for some reason they wouldn’t let us.
***The price for the roll-away bed was $15.
***Even my teenage sons couldn’t figure out the cable TV.
***There was no phone in the room! This we discovered when we wanted to call the front desk and ask about the cable. We were staying in an older section pretty far from the office, so it wasn’t just a quick trip.
We won’t be staying here again.
