Beautiful grounds
Thomas Jefferson's Monticellowe were a little confused so I thought I’d share the details! You have to buy grounds and gardens tickets at the visitor center, then you pass through the ticket taking and they will direct you to the path up the hill to the house. there is a bus up but no dogs allowed. the walk up is fairly steep and about 15 minutes. it was perfect for 3 kids and a pup to get their wiggles out, and the walk takes you past Thomas Jefferson’s grave and the kitchen gardens and the foundations of some of the plantation buildings. We were able to walk all around the outside of the house and through the gardens, and our dog sat at a table outside with us while the kids had ice cream.
I will say, the ticket price for just the grounds was a bit high ($20+) but if you’re with a group and someone wants to stay outside with the dog while others go inside, it’s not a bad situation!
