I have one dog named Jax that I adopted two years ago from the Durham Animal Protection Society. He is my best bud and I try to include him in everything I do!

Experience varies by Server

Ocracoke Oyster Company

We arrived around 2pm on a Thursday in late July and did not have to wait to be seated, with a party of 13, and two dogs. This was a huge plus! They have a nice shaded patio in the front. I noticed a stack of dog bowls, cold water, and treats near the entrance when we sat down. But our server never offered any of this to our two dogs who had just been on a hot ferry ride. Nothing to worry about though. When the server took our order, I decided to treat my dog to some chicken tenders from the kids menu since he hadn't eaten all day. What really annoyed me was the servers response, as if I was feeding my dog arsenic. She totally questioned why I would order something for my dog. She did catch on to my disappointment quickly, and tried to make up for it by sharing info about her own dog. I ended up getting a water bowl and filling it myself, and then another very kind male server came by to visit. He was very friendly with our dogs, and made sure to offer the treat bones they had set out. The food was tasty; I had a sampling of the oysters, and my dog Jax liked the chicken tenders. The server did substitute rice and beans instead of fries for my dog's order which was thoughtful, but that didn't really cross my mind since I knew he wouldn't have eaten either of them. Overall, the restaurant gets a four star rating, but they fell short with a server that was not that in-tune with having dogs as guests, even though the management or ownership had the great idea to welcome dogs to their restaurant. I would visit there again, (if making the journey to Ocracoke Island) but if you go to this restaurant perhaps you can mention first thing that you read great reviews about it on Bring Fido, so they understand you expect you AND your dog(s) to have a great experience and to be sure they to live up to their reputation as a dog friendly establishment that people will seek out.
