Pet Tolerant

Best Western Ville Platte

Be aware after you give your credit card you will be asked to sign a page long list of Rules for your pet.
Your pets will not be allowed on the furniture, so I'm not sure what the $20 per pet per night was for, since clearly the carpet is not cleaned after every guest. The rest of the hotel was excessively clean. Sterile.

I travel with 2 small, very clean elderly dogs. The dogs have their own travel beds and pillows. My one little dog is crippled and usually sleeps on his pillow beside me on the bed in case he needs help during the night. In this motel he had to sleep on the floor and I hated it. The carpet made him sneeze and he felt as unwelcome as I did. The owners of this motel do not understand that for dog lovers, if the dogs don’t feel welcome, we don’t either. When I complained, the manager/owner's response was "Well we give people the choice to not bring them inside." Yeah, I guess I could leave other family members out in the car, too, to save money. Unacceptable.

In my opinion, there is nothing really wonderful about this Best Western. It is adequate, overpriced and sterile. If you want a clean room with no warm welcome at any price, you will love it. If you don’t want a warm welcome for your pets, you will love it. But being a true Southerner and dog lover and including taxes & pet fees paying over $150 a night for just one person, I was hoping to feel like they were happy we were here. But judging by how wide-spread the front desk clerk’s job is, maybe they aren’t. She clearly is worn out from doing many jobs so I probably just increased her workload by checking in. Maybe she is one of the owners, I don’t know, but she seems very overworked and I hated having to take her from her other work when I went to the front to ask a question.

According to all the signs, this motel prides itself on cleanliness and, aside from the carpet in my room which I desperately wanted to take a shampooer to, everything I could see was very clean. The hallway floors were some of the cleanest I’ve seen anywhere, even in corners and around doors. Far cleaner than most hospitals I’ve visited. The linens are very clean and white. Very clean. Almost sterile. And that’s a good thing to find during a pandemic.

In short, although this motel is very clean, I have never felt so unwelcome any place in my life and had there been ANY other nice place to stay nearby, I would have gone there. It reminded me of a wedding reception at someone’s house years ago where the owners covered all the furniture in plastic and laid plastic over the traffic areas of the carpets. While we always want to take care of nice things, people matter more. It made me want to turn around and go back out the door. I traveled 100% of the time in the Midwest for over 10 years with my work, so I’ve stayed a lot of places. I’m checking out of this Best Western. I truly hope I never need to stay here again. In fact, after this experience I don’t know that I will EVER stay at a Best Western again.
