Great Tour and Dog Loved It

Colonial Ghosts

We took the extended tour. I really didn’t care about the ghost part and was more interested in just the history and this was a perfect balance. Clearly the ghost stories are a big part of Williamsburg’s history but these weren’t scary or gruesome. Just interesting and informative. It would be perfect for kids. If you’re going to do this tour, the extra 30 minutes for the extended tour is well worth it if you’re like us and probably wouldn’t get any of the William and Mary history otherwise. Our dog enjoyed the walk. She’s less of a fan of stops but the stops were quick enough that she tolerated it and the rest of our tour members tolerated her gentle whines to remind us she was ready to keep walking. She was definitely on the scent of something the whole time. Maybe it was a ghost.

Great Way to See the Waterfront with Pups

Jamestown-Scotland Ferry

We took the ferry across the river from the historic Jamestown area to Surry for lunch and back. Dogs are allowed in vehicles on the ferry and leashed dogs are allowed to get out on the deck during the 5-7 minute ride. Our dog was a little timid at first because this was her first time on any kind of water vessel but she loved the breeze and quickly started to explore. The ferry operators were very welcoming and seemed to love seeing her check things out. I think most riders are locals who ride it every day so they don’t mind seeing people and dogs excited about the ferry. And it’s free to ride!
