Visitors generally appreciate the pet-friendly grounds, with many noting the abundance of walking trails and gardens. Some travelers found the pricing steep, especially for accessing the house, but many still enjoyed exploring the outdoor spaces with their dogs. They recommend planning ahead to manage the logistics of touring the estate while accommodating pets.

- CamilleSep 19, 2024Nice property, but not worth the money!
Listen, I'm a bit of a spender and can talk myself into spending money pretty easily. However, $60 to walk around a property may be where I draw the line after this experience. Unfortunately, that's as cheap as the grounds passes come even on a weekday morning in mid-September! Way overpriced. I'd say $30 would be much more realistic. My dog and I drove onto the property, parked in the park and walk area (not too far of a walk), and made our way towards the house. Very quickly you can see the house in all of its glory with buses parked right out front of it, a line of people backed up (even early in the morning), and cars passing by. We took our photos and then made our way to the gardens. Given that it is between seasons, the rose garden was a bit crippled IMO, half the rose bushes looked worse than those in my own backyard. I am sure the upcoming seasonal flowers will be much prettier, we just went at a bad time of the year for gardens. Some of the walled garden looked very nice, but not worth cost of entry. There were also a lot of bees, so just be aware. My dog got tired after about an hour and a half, so we made our way back to the car. When they say spend "six hours" on the property, they must be including the half hour it takes just to get OFF the property. I felt like I would never make it out! I followed the exit signs without missing any and it took forever. Plan accordingly if you are in a hurry to make it to your next destination. Overall, nice place, but only if you've got money to blow. I'm sure the house is nice inside, but there is no reason it should cost as much as it does for what it is. This was a one-and-done location for us.
- carrieMar 18, 2024Perfect place for you and your pup!
After reading other reviews I realized what made our day really special (and stress free!) was some planning. We visited mid March 2024 and was completely aware you can not bring dogs on the tour inside the house. We had planned on spending the day strolling the gardens, the outside of the home and then driving down to the other areas of the estate that are along the river, bike path and farm area. We packed a picnic and knew where that was allowed ahead of time. Its one of the most dog friendly places we have been! There were a lot of other dog owners and so many friendly people! Our tips: wear good walking shoes, check for excellent weather and enjoy a picnic!
- DeborahOct 25, 2023Amazing Fall day with my dog
As noted above, leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds/gardens, but not in the house. Be sure to park in the “park and walk to the estate” section A, as pups are not allowed on the shuttles. Don’t miss the quick detour to the Statue of Diana (can find on a google map.). Bring water for them and just let them sniff away! We are on a great road trip in search of great estates like Monticello and Barboursville who let dogs on the grounds. Definitely worth the price.
We didn’t eat on property. We picked up sandwiches at a nearby Fresh Market and picnicked on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The third week of October seemed to be a great time to see the mums and leaves in full color. Stayed in Biltmore Village at the Grand Bohemian which is super dog friendly! Everyone goes out of their way to make my dog Ribeye is enjoying his stay! - RebeccaJun 4, 2023Careful preparations required
The grounds are magnificent and the home tour is elegant and educational. My companion took our dogs on an enjoyable walk, then rested with them in a shady area while I took the tour. He didn’t complain and seemed happy to do it, but I feel certain it wasn’t the most comfortable arrangement for him. It would be very difficult to take dogs if you don’t have the ability to trade off keeping them outdoors. The gardens and conservatory make lovely backgrounds for photos with your pup!
- JackieApr 10, 2023Stressful Day
Had to call to confirm they still had kennels since it isn't on their website anymore. The lady said yes, but bring my own lock. Went and bought a lock. Got there and the kennels had chains and locks on them for public use. Kennels are in Lot C. We wanted to walk the dogs around the grounds, then go kennel them before our house tour. From Lot C, there is no walking path to get to the house. We started walking on the side of the road. We got stopped by 2 shuttle drivers telling us it wasn't safe for us to walk, but dogs aren't allowed on the shuttle. We walked back to the car, parked in Lot A, walked to the house on the short walking trail that's only available from Lot A. We walked in the gardens for a bit, then I left the others so I could take the dogs back the kennels in Lot C. You cannot go from Lot A to Lot C! I had to drive around the entire property to get back to Lot C. With the walking & driving, it took me an HOUR to get back to the house!! I was late for our tour, but luckily they didn't seem to care about our entry time. This was a stressful day. Hard to believe that a place that talks about how walkable it is, doesn't have a trail from the kennels to the house.
- GaryMay 17, 2022Ridiculous pricing
$65 grounds only pass to walk around with the dogs. Went with my wife and 2 dogs. $130. No dogs allowed on the shuttle so you’d need to walk to the main house. It was hot and one of my dogs is not a walker. Hard pass. I’d have done $20 for a drive by.
- EllenApr 10, 2022Very expensive!
We just came in April 2022: $85 per person just for the gardens. This is an amazing and special place, but we didn’t feel like spending that on just the outside. And the guides told us that many of the sections of the garden are not dog accessible. Just important to know.
- CoreyNov 27, 2021Huge change in pricing
probably still just as dog friendly as ever but you should be aware that the pricing structure has changed and you now have to pay to enter the park at all and the ticket includes the house tour which means it’s incredibly expensive. We planned to do some trails and stuff and found out that tickets were $106 a person in Nov. 2021 at the gate. OUCH! So be sure to check it out online first!
- LoriNov 12, 2021Beautiful grounds, great tour.
Beautiful grounds, great tour. People say the kennels are rough, they were fine! I’m glad I brought my pup’s bed and water bowl. kennels are under trees, in the shade, felt secure. I did rush through the tour a little, feeling bad about leaving him alone. but he was fine!
- JacquelineSep 5, 2021Beautiful gardens
Very dog friendly, but bring your own water.
- KathleenJun 12, 2021Amazing Trip to Biltmore
We had a great time exploring with 2 huskies. Staff was very friendly and helpful. One thing that would be very helpful, and we may have missed this, is having more fresh water stations on the trail. It was really hot and we were concerned about the dogs getting enough water. Other than that, great trip!
- SofiaJun 11, 2021Great activity
Very nice place! We enjoyed the beautiful outdoors. Dogs can’t get inside the House but my husband and I decide to do the tour one at the time and for us that was no problem.
- SamanthaJan 5, 2021Beautiful Property
What an amazing property to explore. While I do suggest visiting more than 1 day so you can explore inside (without your dog), the grounds are heaven for pets. There are so many places to walk and explore and it's fantastic that your dog can come with you.
- MeredithDec 1, 2020Great If The Weather Is Good
we had a gorgeous sunny day over Thanksgiving and had a great time. My husband and I toured the house separately because we had our dog but that didn’t bother us. Lots of acres to walk and roam. And Cedric’s Tavern patio in Antler Village could not have been more welcoming to our dog.
- Cheddar bacon cheeseMar 15, 2020March 2020 Dogs Allowed
Went here for a fun day with my humans. We walked down to bass pond and all around the estate gardens! There were lots of good sniffs for me. I got to take a nap in the car after our long walk while my humans toured the house. Only downside was a lot of ticks seemed to love my furry body!!
- SaraMay 2, 2019A must see!
We visited here in the beginning of March 2019.
This Estate is very breathe taking and beautiful. A must see for everyone. We went to see the house and my husband and I did a fur baby swap to see it. We knew we didn’t want to leave our dog in the kennels they provide no matter how nice they are or not. I went in first and my husband went in to view the house one hour after me. It was great to take our dog to these amazing naturous grounds. If you do take turns seeing the house I would say it takes at least an hour to hour and a half to walk through it. After we viewed the house we then went to Antler village located on the Biltmore grounds. Antler village has many shops and restaurants. We had lunch at the Creamery. They have outside patio seating to sit at with your dog. You have to go inside to order and then they will bring the food to the table when it is ready. There sandwiches and ice cream were delicious. I would highly recommend the Biltmore to anyone with a dog. I would definitely go back even just to walk the grounds and have lunch. Such a beautiful place to enjoy with your fur kids! - NicoleFeb 3, 2019Great If You Live In Asheville
$60 people. $60 to just walk the grounds. This is a full ticket price to tour the hose, grounds, winery, etc. unless you live in Asheville and have an annual pass, $60 is astronomically high to pay to walk your dog. As another has mentioned, they need to have a grounds only ticket option
- DebbyJan 5, 2019Not Good In Winter
We visited in early Jan to catch the Christmas decorations and not only is the tasting room not pet friendly, the two restaurants beside it didn’t have their patios open. For Jan 5th it was a gorgeous day and would have been a perfect place to drink a glass of wine. It would be easy enough to serve food outside... very disappointing.
- RoonyOct 22, 2018Wonderful Experience
First off—forget the dog kennels. We were told the ones in Park-C (next to the mansion) were closed but the ones in the Village parking lot were open. We took forever to find them but if you drive beyond the parking lot and behind the animal farm you’ll see a sign. I was expecting dog kennels like the ones you see at Petsmart but these were really disappointing. There were four stalls with chain link fencing and some wooden boards/ bare concrete. There’s enough room to house a few big dogs in one stall but the water bowl is filthy with bugs and leaves. Speaking of bugs, there were so many cob webs and spiders around you can tell no one is in charge of cleaning these kennels and they’re so far away from the village its like the dog kennel idea was an afterthought. It was cold today too and there was no heating/comfort for Fido-just cold slab of concrete. If it rained I think the pups would get wet too and there isn’t much of a view—just workers driving around. I don’t expect the staff to treat dogs as well as we owners do and I know this is just a convenience thing but I truly wish they would put more thought into these kennels considering how much revenue the estate takes in. Seriously, at the very least cleaning the area once a month would be an upgrade. It felt like we were surrendering our pup to the most run down shelter by leaving her here so we changed our minds and took her with us the rest of the trip. I highly suggest if you go in groups to split: while a part of your group explores the house the other group can go gift shopping or tour the trails and that way you can take turns taking care of Fido and no one has to drive back and forth to those awful kennels. If you absolutely have to leave your pup in a kennel know that the house tour is 2 hours long so definitely bring your dog a bed and water bowl.
Besides that this was a great day for us and our pup, she got a lot of exercise and there was plenty for her to see and we couldn’t believe we spent 8 hours here hurrying back and forth between tours and trying things out before shops closed. The estate is enormous and there’s so much you can do, the gardens/ trails covered sooo much land you’ll spend at least 2 hours there and Fido is welcome there and everywhere outside. Shops and all the restaurants have outdoor seating as well. Tip: if you have a doggy stroller or a dog bag and your pup well behaved you’re likely to be welcomed in the shops.
- JessicaOct 9, 2018Pup-tastic Day!
We took our chihuahua to Biltmore and spent the whole day. They don't allow dogs in the house itself but otherwise we were welcome in all the gardens, on the patios of the restaurants and they even let us bring him to wine tasting and in the store (although he was in his dog "purse" versus on his leash and you hardly knew he was even there because he doesn't bark and just watches). It was a lovely day and he was definitely worn out.
- L.FleuryMore than a year agoPups first visit to the Biltmore
We are pass holders and have been visiting the Biltmore for many years. This was the first time that we brought our pups. We wanted to enjoy the grounds and had no intention of going into the house on this trip. We had a great lunch at Cedric's on the patio. The staff was very accommodating when we visited the courtyard between the house and the stables. Dean came over twice to visit the pups and to check to make sure that everything was ok. He even went into the ice cream shop and came back with ice cream bowls of water for each pup.
- LizMore than a year agoNot for my dog
I'd read good things about the Biltmore Kennel reviews. We drove past them yesterday and there's no way I would let my dog stay in the kennels. She was much better off staying in our truck with a good fan running. The kennels appeared to be in disrepair. There are 4 kennels but none were being used. We thought of using the kennel while we visited Antler Village for the wine tasting and lunch. Nope. Nope. Nope. I'm not neurotic or even that fussy but I don't feel that my dog would have been safe or happy in the kennels.
- Rick A.More than a year agoGreat tour, clean kennels
Learned from Bring Fido that the Biltmore Estate has self-service dog kennels available to guests that want to tour the house (dogs are allowed all over the property but not inside the Estate or Conservatory. There are about 10 kennels in the corner of Parking Lot C - they are outside, covered, cement slab, and have a lock with a key that you take with you. Also, there is a hand well pump to pump clean water (suggest bringing your own water bowl). It was a cold morning, so we brought our dog's bed, blanket and a bone to keep him occupied - he was also wearing his jacket. The kennels were clean and in a wooded area. In the summer, they would be well shaded. In the winter, they get the sun in the morning. The tour of the house is about 2 hours and the shuttle bus to/from the house/parking lot is about 10-15 (with waiting in line). Overall, this was a great solution for a couple of hours and the ability to take dogs all over the property. Take the hike down to bass lake!
- CarlyMore than a year agoFun with some restrictions
Overall, this was a good experience at the Biltmore. We arrived at the Estate in the morning, and were directed to the parking lot that hosts the kennels. We dropped our Westie off in the kennels which were very clean. There was a lock and key provided, so we knew she would be safe while we toured the house.
We asked the bus driver before getting on the bus to the estate if we could come back after our tour, and bring our dog on the bus to tour the grounds and gardens. However, only service dogs are available on the bus. He recommended we leave her in the kennel until it was time to drive over to Antler Hill Village. We ended up leaving her while we walked the gardens.
On the drive over to the village, we noticed there was garden parking so it seems we could have moved the car there after our tour to take her around the gardens. It would be nice if they allowed well-behaved pups on the buses and had the kennels closer to the estate so it's easier to tour the grounds with your dog.
However, I am very glad they have the kennels at all. We were staying an hour away, so leaving her there all day just was not an option. In addition, the Antler Hill Village was very accommodating. We had a nice lunch outside on the covered patio. They brought her water and even carrot sticks to munch on (we had to ask for the carrots, of course). We had fun walking around the village, and we took turns doing the complimentary wine tasting since she couldn't come in (which was completely understandable!). Overall, a great visit!
- ErinMore than a year agoPets Allowed On Grounds and Antler Hill Village
You won’t have to leave anyone behind. The grounds are perfect for walking your pets, but please keep them securely leashed at all times. Pets (except service dogs) are not allowed in any building. All pets must be leashed on estate grounds for their own safety as well as the comfort of our other guests. Please be courteous of others and pick up after your pet.
A very limited number of outdoor, unattended pet kennels are available at Biltmore. They are self-service and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in using a kennel, please see a parking host for kennel information upon arrival on the estate.
- JennyMore than a year agoWish there was a "grounds only" ticket option
We spent half a day touring the gardens and hiking trails...I'm not sure if our dog has ever been that tired! We planned the trip to do the outdoor activities only. The kennels were closed due to dog flu - and we didn't plan to leave our dog in them anyways. It was a lovely day - my only complaint is the ticket price is the same even though we had no intention of touring the house. It would be great if they sold an outdoor only ticket at a discount that gave you access to gardens and trails, but not indoors. Even at the full $60/person, it was still a wonderful visit and I'm glad we were able to see so much of the outdoor areas with our dog in tow.
- SeanMore than a year agoGreat for dogs
They are welcome in almost all areas. Tons of walking options. We made an entire day of touring and hiking.
- ChrisMore than a year agoFun even with our pup
We spent an afternoon on the Biltmore property. The mansion was closed for the afternoon but the rest of the grounds were open. Our golden doodle was one of many dogs at the facility. The village had a winery and places which were dog friendly to eat drink and relax. It was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks Biltmore staff and Bring Fido for the recommendation

- JanetMore than a year agoLoved the kennels!
We took three dogs with us on a visit to the Biltmore Estate. They waited for us in a shady kennel with unlimited water while we toured the Estate. The kennel was big enough to house two Westies and our 40 pound mutt with plenty of room to spare. There was no wait and we were there in late August. What a nice surprise!
- VivMore than a year agoLovely Time
Went there with 2 large dogs. The trails and exterior grounds are dog-friendly. They just can't go inside the buildings or inside the restaurants. The outdoor seating for the food was very friendly for dogs. Wish I had known about the free self-service kennels! Will definitely go back there again with the dogs!
- SuphrinaMore than a year agoWear your pup out
We just got back from our trip to Asheville. We took our two girls out for a 4 hour trek on the Biltmore grounds. They were totally worn out. We took them through the gardens and down to the lake. When we were ready, we let them rest in the self service kennels so we could tour the house. Great time was had by all!
