Pet Friendly Sandy Hook/Gateway National Park
Sandy Hook/Gateway National Park Sandy Hook/Gateway National Park is pet-friendly between certain dates. Dogs are not permitted on ocean-side beaches at Sandy Hook Unit from March 15 through Labor Day due to piping plover season. Pets are permitted on bay-side beaches at Plum Island and Horseshoe Cove throughout the year, but must always be on a leash. Dog owners must carry out all trash, and make preparations for carrying out dog waste. Parking is $20 in the summer season from Memorial Day to Labor Day. See Details

Sandy Hook This lovely beach is a great place for a daytrip, and pets are allowed on-leash on the bay side all year round. Unfortunately, dogs are only allowed on the beach during the off-season starting on September 15. See Details
Dog-Friendly Beach on Gerritsen Avenue This secret little bay area is open to anyone, and dogs are welcome here. Many humans walk their dogs a little distance past the entrance since families are often swimming and spending time near the entrance. The beach area can get crowded on weekends. See Details
Playland Beach Playland Beach is located on the grounds of Playland Park Amusement Park. Dogs are welcome to join their owners on the beach from October 1st until April 28th. There is a limit of 3 dogs for each owner and dog walking services are prohibited all year round. Make sure you keep Fido on a leash under six feet. See Details

Atlantic Beach Atlantic Beach is a seaside community on the south shore of Long Island. Located just 21 miles from Manhattan, the sandy beaches in the area are dog-friendly from October through March. Pet owners are reminded to keep their pooches on a leash under 6 feet while they are visiting and that dogs are prohibited from using the boardwalk year round. Although dog licenses are issued by the county, they are rarely checked and this rule isn't often enforced. Responsible pet owners are reminded that dog poop is a pollutant in the waterways, so pooper scoopers should be packed before any trip to the beach. See Details
