Crooked River State Park Located on southern tip of Georgia?s Colonial Coast, this park is the perfect spot for enjoying the intracoastal waterway and maritime forest. Campsites are surrounded by palmettos and Spanish moss-draped oaks, while cottages are set near the tidal river. A boat ramp is popular with anglers who often take to the water before sunrise. Just down the road is the ferry to famous Cumberland Island National Seashore known for secluded beaches and wild horses. The park's nature trail winds through forest and salt marsh, and hikers may see gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, herons and other birds. A nature center features fish, snakes, turtles and other animals native to coastal Georgia. Visitors may venture to the nearby ruins of a tabby mill, built around 1825 and later used as a starch factory during the Civil War. Dogs are allowed on all trails, but must be kept on a 6-ft max leash. Dogs are not permitted in or around historic sites, lodges, group camps, or swimming areas. See Details

Tommy Casey Memorial Dog Park Fairly spacious, completely fenced, off-leash dog park in a quiet area. There's a spigot so you can give your dog fresh water, a nice agility course to try out, benches for the humans, and plenty of trees. There are also a couple trash receptacles, but there aren't always waste bags available, so make sure to bring your own. People seem to have a habit of leaving tennis balls behind, so you might be in luck if you left toys at home! Hours are from sunrise to sunset. Rules are fairly standard: vaccinations are a must, remove all choke or spike or prong collars, children under 16 must be with an adult, an owner must be inside the park with their dog(s) at all times, leash your dog(s) if you can't control them, aggressive dogs and dogs in heat aren't allowed, and fill in holes and pick up waste your dog leaves. Dogs are welcome to join their owners on all of the hiking trails, nature trails, along the park drive, and in the camping areas at the park. One of the best parts of this state park is the six-mile trail around the fort and the surrounding wooded areas. Alternatively, you and Fido may enjoy the shorter hike, the Willow Pond Hiking Trail. This hike loops around a couple of pretty fresh water ponds. Unfortunately, pooches can't go inside any of the historic buildings on the site such as the fort. The fee to enter is $6 per vehicle and the park is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. See Details
