North Zephyr Cove Beach North Zephyr Cove Beach is a dog-friendly area just north of the actual Zephyr Cove Resort. If you park in the lot close to the beach you will probably have to pay but if you park across Hwy 50, it's free. The park does get crowded on the weekends. There is a charge to ride up the mountain but, if you hike up to high camp (elevation 8200 ft) with Fido, the tram will give you both a ride down for free. The best way to hike up is the Shirley Lake Trail. It's a 3-hour hike with a rest stop at the popular dog-friendly swimming hole, Shirley Lake.
